The far tree is Larix laricina also known as Tamarack or Larch.
Their needles turn from green to a faded green to bright gold this time of year. Then the needles fall off. Tamarack is a deciduous conifer. Most certainly a interesting tree...that will never be cut down for a Christmas tree.
Not much new here...Far Guy turned all the clocks back and changed the batteries in the smoke detectors. We need a new CO2 detector as it would not stop chirping when he changed the batteries...they are only good for a few years.
Far Side
It is funny as I didn't notice Tamaracks until a few years ago. I don't even know why! They are pretty neat trees.
ReplyDeleteI love their November golden glow!
Good reminders!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful tree! I've had my CO2 detector for years...hmmm...maybe I need a new one? It seems to work but how would I know? LOL!
ReplyDeleteGood morning...This tree is beautiful. We do not have these in our area, but I did ask Sam if he had heard of it before...( he has..I thought he probably had, since we are in the Tree Nursery Business). I had not heard of these before. It must be neat watching the needles change colors and reaching this golden color. Those little beeps can sure drive you crazy until the batteries or device gets changed out. I really do not do good with the time change...I prefer late evening light and now it gets dark at 5:00-5:30.. argh..
ReplyDeleteUsually they are good for ten years before that happens.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree! The color is amazing! We have all the clocks changed except my stove clock. I can't seem to figure that out. GRRR!
ReplyDeleteThat is a tree I have neither heard of or seen. I would like to see one. We need a new CO2 detector, also.
ReplyDeletePlaces with a tamarack forest are important tourist destinations.
ReplyDeleteThank you for showing the tree. I have never heard of it. I will search and educate myself!
ReplyDeleteThe colour of the tamarack/larch is incredible. So glad, I don't have to turn my clocks one way or another...I would be so confused.
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing world there!
ReplyDeleteSmoke Detectors have expiration dates, too. Check the backs when replacing batteries.
ReplyDeleteA friend of one of my sons has the unusual first name of Tamarack. I knew her only as Tammy for years before she told me. GM
ReplyDeleteTamaracks are really quite wonderful. Their gold is such a bright spot in a dull landscape.
ReplyDeleteI dread the chore of changing all the clocks twice a year! Changing the “clock” for my stomach is even harder. Sigh 😞
ReplyDeleteNot a tree I have head before
ReplyDeleteOur smoke detectors are connected to the mains, they may have a battery back up but I'm not sure the maintenance of them is done by our landlord
We have larch trees on the eastern slopes of our Cascade Mountains and occasionally planted here as landscape trees.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder about the smoke / co2 detectors.
I had heard of tamaracks but never knew much about them. They are quite unique.
ReplyDeleteI will be thrown off for about a week due to DST change. Never used to bother me much when I was young. Sure does now. lol!
It's a beautiful tree! That gold color is stunning. As I was driving down the street today a huge Christmas tree on a truck came toward me. It had an extra semi-trailer and two trucks keeping traffic away. It took up both northbound lanes. I would think it would be all dried out by Christmas but what do I know?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Beautiful tree/s!!
ReplyDeleteNot only is it beautiful...I just like to hear its name...Tamarack.
