Our Fall work list is getting shorter. The leaves are out of the trees, well all the leaves that will fall right now.
If there are still leaves in the tree then that is most likely a Pin Oak and the leaves will fall off in the winter winds and the leaves will skate across the snowbanks or the new leaves will force them off in the Spring. ..it is called marcescence.
I put a few pieces of furniture for sale on Facebook marketplace...sold one so far. Yeah me!
We have three medical appointments so far this week. It is what we do for entertainment.

Thank you for mentioning the term marcescence - I had always wondered about these leaves that turn brown but don't fall.

Raking is hard work...I can remember getting blisters from raking until I got smart and wore gloves. Our leaves are still on the trees mostly and I think peak color was this past weekend. It's been a beautiful Fall here. I hope your stitches are healing well and not bothering you.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I have lots of oaks all around my house so falling leaves is a four to five month affair. My lawn always looks pretty rough in early spring until I've had a chance to run over it with a lawnmower a couple times.

Our leaves are just now starting to fall. After this big cold storm coming in we should be able to get all the leaves raked for the year. I hope.
ReplyDeleteI'll rake sometime this fall or winter when the pines finish dropping their spent needles and the Hickory leaves are all down. We cut down the locusts in August so my gutters didn't fill up to the brim! Yippee! I still need to clean them though.

At least he gets to get out and see the farm fields on the drive to town.
Nothing like starting the week with a new word. Not that I'm apt to actually use it in everyday conversation but its still good to know. Now if only I can remember how to spell it. GM

When our kids were young, so were our trees. They used to take wagons up to the top of our street where the big maple trees are and go door to door begging to rake yards in exchange for the leaves to bring home. We had huge piles for jumping.
ReplyDeleteHistory repeated itself this weekend. Some of the grands live in a neighborhood of trees, but have none of their own. They went next door with their wagon and brought home leaves to make a pile.
Medical appointments for entertainment? I'm sure you would rather being doing something else, but you are to be applauded for having a great attitude about them :) xx
ReplyDeleteyes we have one of those trees that keeps its leaves for much of the winter too. It blocks our view of the lake so not my favorite tree. Hope your medical appts. all go well this weeki. Take good care you two.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you do all that you do. I'm sure glad that we don't have yard work anymore. I never enjoyed it at all and the humidity here in the summer seems to get worse the older we get. Have fun at the appointments. I don't have to go until next Monday. :-)

ReplyDeleteLD....I have another appointment for my new cap next week. My cataract work is just on hold as I have my slate full helping my wife. My wife has a stent to be removed in a couple of weeks. Three in a week is a busy time.
