We are back up North safe and sound before the big storm that is supposed to blanket us with a good amount of snow.
Saturday was the Celebration of Life for my Mother. The Pastor was a Sunday School student of my Mothers a very long time ago. There were 306 people at the church service. The luncheon went off without a hitch. There were plenty of leftovers. The inurnment took place later in the afternoon.
Sunday my siblings and I read cards out loud and wrote thank you notes.
It was a busy weekend, now we need to rest up a bit.

The florist was working overtime delivering all the flowers, my Mom would have loved it. Bouquets were sent home with relatives that were close to Mom. The big sprays were taken to the Nursing Home, there they divide up flowers putting them in bud vases for all the residents...Mom would have liked that too.

ReplyDeleteIt's nice that the siblings could go through the cards and write the thank you notes together. When my mother-in-law passed his sister and one of the older nieces helped with the cards and notes.
It sounds like such an honoring and wonderful celebration for your mother! Very thankful for people loving your family so much during this time.
ReplyDeleteThe food - - - do the church women cook for everyone in attendance? Generally In our area, it is reserved for family and out-of-town guests. Just curious regarding traditions/cultures. Very thankful all ate well.

The reason we went to cemetery last weekend was to put some of Larry’s ashes at his stone. Feb. 29, he’ll be gone 4 years. It was difficult for me. I’m taking ashes to his favorite places too. You’d think things would ease, but it doesn’t seem to work like that. The service to remember your mother sounds perfect. You will miss her as long as you live.

ReplyDeleteThe flowers are so beautiful. A muliti-colored arrangement can be so striking. You mother was a great gardener so they were perfect. It is good you safe inside as I see the weather has really hit up there. We had temps take a nosedive this afternoon with the Arctic air blowing wildly. From 75 to 14 degrees is a shock to the system. Rest.....
ReplyDeleteThe funeral home in my town sends the flowers to nursing homes for bud vases, too. I think it is a wonderful tradition. What a lovely service and send away for your mom <3
