My Maternal Grandparents attended Zion Lutheran Church my parents were married there and I was baptized there on January 6, 1952. I was trying to recall the last time I was inside? I recall being in the cemetery as a child...I have several Uncles buried there and now my Grandparents are buried there and one of my Aunts is sprinkled there. Years ago most cemeteries were not mowed...the grass got really tall by the end of the summer. The church is only open for special occasions now.
We visited the cemetery in the rain.
Baxter waited patiently.
Baxter has allergies and shakes his head...poor boy. The pollen has been knocked down a bit by the rain...it could rain again for a couple of days.
Poor Baxter. Hope his allergies aren't too bad.

ReplyDeleteLike barns (and other things), some churches are declining, going to ruin. What a shame.
ReplyDeleteA lovely old church and cemetery. My grandparents and other family are in a Kansas cemetery with a huge old Catholic church that is lovingly maintained but also only open for special events like weddings and baptisms. We visited a couple years ago while in KS for a reunion. I hadn't been there in many years. My parents are buried in Minnesota along with most of my mother's side of the family in various places across the state like Renville, Fort Snelling, Melrose and Fergus Falls.
ReplyDeleteWe're taking flowers to the cemetery next week. If we take them on Memorial Day, they throw them away that week to make mowing easier. If we take them a little later, sometimes they stay all summer. I like to give them every chance to hang around.
ReplyDeleteWe had some strong thunderstorms yesterday. Thunder, lightening, hail and WIND! Gosh is was windy.

My folks are buried in a Lutheran cemetery . Many of my paternal relatives are buried there. Great Grandpa donated the cemetery land from his homestead.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I have a trip planned for early July to visit my hometown. While there we plan to visit both cemeteries to visit my parent's graves (the new cemetery), as well my maternal grand and great-grand parents. I need to get photos for Ancestry of the latter.

Pretty church and cemetery. My grandparents and uncles are buried in a cemetery without any grass (water is not very plentiful) so the graves are in a concrete area. It’s kind of depressing.
