Invited out

We were invited out for supper.   I wanted to take a Christmas gift of Chokecherry Jelly.  Imagine my surprise that all the jars in the pantry were empty.  Five boxes and they were all empty....that is 60 jars of jelly!

I got out some chokecherry juice from the freezer and enlisted Far Guy's help and we made two batches of jelly.  It will still be warm when presented as a gift.  Fresh!   It has been on my list of things to do.  We have to build up the stash again!

The kitchen smells good now!

We had a sunny morning with blue skies, by the time I got outside to take a photo the light was leaving.

The snow is not melting.

Not sure what we will be having for a meal, but we get to pet a dog and visit with friends!

  1. What is your recipe for that kind of jelly?

  2. You must have gifted a lot of jelly. I know you could not have eaten all those jars of jelly.

  3. Having a stash of canned goods must lull us to sleep at times. I just discovered a couple days ago that we are running pretty low of canned spaghetti sauce. I need to make sure we grow some tomatoes next year or we will be out completely!

I have two recipes. I have used them both
3 1/2 cups of chokecherry juice
    1/2 cup of lemon juice
Add one package of pectin (Sure Jel)
Heat and stir until the mixture boils and increases in volume...after that I stir about a minute.
Add 3 1/2 cups of sugar
Bring to boil and boil for two minutes stirring constantly.
    Skim foam off the top.

The other is 4 Cups Juice, 2 Tablespooons Lemon Juice and 5 cups of sugar and one container of Sure Jell or 6 Tablespoons Pectin

  6. I don't think I've ever had Chokecherry jelly. It sure sounds delicious. And anytime you get to pet a dog and visit with friends is a good time. The food is just the icing on the cake.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. Your friends will appreciate the gift of freshly canned jelly. It’s snowing this morning, but it won’t amount to much as it’s too cold.

  8. 60 jars gone! You really do need to build up your stash. ;)
Nothing is melting around here, either. Too dang cold!

  10. That jelly will be so good to eat. I am glad you get to eat out. We have to skip a birthday part Saturday as we are still dragging with symptoms handing on too long. Enjoy seeing you dog neighbor.

  13. Haven't had chokecherry jelly for years. People don't know what they're missing if they haven't had chokecherry jelly.

  14. Petting a dog and visiting with friends - a great way to spend an evening. Chokecherry jelly is so good. I bought some at a farmers market about a year ago.

  15. I guess that stash of jelly has met with a lot of toast!
I was just mentioning you to Tom and saying that with the cold coming your way your new snow may stick around to be old snow.

  17. I've never had chokecherries in any form, and it's been years since I've made jelly. Fortunately you had the juice to make some.

  18. The recipe for chokecherry jelly seems easy enough. Now I just have to find some chokecherries. I doubt they grow around here though.
I hope you have a lovely evening.

  21. One Christmas when I had NO money to spare, I made up bags of homemade jelly and homemade cinnamon bread as gifts to my in laws. My husband at the time was upset and embarrassed that I did that.
However now years later and [not married to him], those folks recall getting the home made goods more than any other trinket they may have gotten over the years.

Jelly that is home made is far better than anything else I can think of!
