Pretty Leaves

The leaves are not yet prime but they will be in the next week.

We went for a Ranger Blue ride before supper....it gets dark earlier every evening.  By the way we made pork chops and along with them we tried the corn on the cob that we froze about a month ago (some husks removed and vacuum sealed)...we are not a fan....it tasted like husks and cobs.

Anyways...we saw a large bird most likely a hawk and a bunch of turkeys.  No deer and no bear.

We enjoyed the time away in the woods.  Only met one other couple out and about.

It will most likely freeze on Wednesday morning ...early Tuesday morning it was 35 F.

  2. Your leaves are changing far sooner than ours, Connie. Yours are so pretty already. We find ourselves raking past Thanksgiving. I don't know what the temperature is here right now, at 5:41am, but I'm COLD despite the furnace running. Keep warm! ~Andrea xoxo

  3. Your colors are so much better than ours; but ours are getting there. When I freeze corn on the cob I remove the husks, blanche the cob, then cut the kernels off the cob, then freeze it. When thawed out and cooked it tastes like fresh. Just a thought.

  4. We are at 32 here as I type this, so I think the low laying spots and valleys got the first freeze.

The colors are starting here and there, I imagine that they will rapidly change now after the frost we had this morning.

We drove to Madison and back yesterday and noted that the change of colors in the leaves has been slow.

  7. We've already been bitten by frost a couple of times. Leaf tips in the garden are black. How did you cook your corn from the freezer? We put our corn in the pot froze, cook on med/high, just as it starts boiling, it's done. Karen

  9. A beautiful glimpse of all with that photo! I saw on the news yesterday that Spearfish canyon in the Black Hills was 75% "fall colors". But we're just beginning to see the changes here in the eastern part of SD.

  10. The leaves are changing here too, and some are earlier than others. The wind has been a-blowing but my brother says things are looking good in the valley. I'm hoping to get out there this weeek.
    Enjoy!

  11. Trees are just starting to turn down here. It was 32 earlier, it's 40 now. I turned the infrared heater on in the kitchen, it was a little chilly.

  14. Beautiful colours in your trees - pity they mean cold is coming :)

  15. Like mentioned above, the best way I've found to preserve corn is to blanche it for a few minutes, cut the kernels off the cob and then freeze it. To eat, we put it from the freezer into a microwave safe dish with a few pats of butter and heat and stir until hot.

  16. I saw a lot of people were freezing corn that way this year. I wondered how it would turn out. I guess I will stick with the old fashioned way.

  17. Your trees are looking great. Our color is just barely showing on some maples.

  18. Our mornings are cooler too, but 59 or so. 35 sounds chilly. Trees are beautiful.

  19. Your colors look so fresh and clean. Everything is dry and dusty here. We are hoping we get more than brown. After a little bit of rain today we will be back to the mid 70's by next week. We are actually kind of tired of summer, but when the cold November rains begin we'll wish we had it back.
