Black eyes

My Dad has a black /purple eye because he fell getting out of the car .   He has fallen a number of times this Summer.   Since he is a large guy my Mother cannot lift him up...so she calls the ambulance.   He was checked out at the Emergency Room and was released to go back to their apartment in assisted living.

  2. Falling is such a concern with the elderly. Falls are close to impossible to prevent. They happen so darn quickly. The past few years of my mom's life I forbid her to get out of my vehicle without me standing guard. She didn't like it, and had to be reminded every time. I would run around to the passenger side door, and usually find her half way out by the time I got there lol. She was determined and never gave up :)

It must be humbling, startling and definitely hurts! Hope your dad takes it easy, and the bruises heal sooner than later.

  3. MySister Helen is falling. She went to emergency last week too. Cracked hip. She has rugs every where. We are telling her it’s not a good idea, but she will not heed our advice. Your Mom andDad at least have each other. Thank goodness Mom can call for help.

  4. Oh dear. I remember before my Dad went into nursing home care he had a number of falls too. The last one happened in the home and he was wheelchair bound for the rest of his life. Hopefully your Dad's fall don't cause too much damage.
The black eyed susans are pretty!

  5. I thought that was the whole point of "assisted living", no? I thought your parents would be "assisted" if they needed anything.... like getting up after falling. I hope your Dad feels better from his fall soon. ~Andrea xoxo

  6. Falling is frightening to all concerned - the person who fell and those around that person. I’m glad your Mom was able to get some help for your Dad.

  9. I'm so sorry to hear your dad has been falling. I'm sure it's very frightening for your mom. Hopefully the bruises are the only injury. My mother-in-law took some falls, and ended up breaking her collar bone one time. Luckily she was a very tiny woman so we didn't have trouble helping back up.

  10. Ouch. Sending good vibes to him!

Beautiful susans. I only have a small clump I bought from the townhouse, but I definitely have plans for more as the years go on!

  12. Falls are so scary. My husband was a big man also, and I could never pick him up so I can imagine how your mother feels. I hope your dad soon recovers. Hugz xx

  14. I am sorry that he keeps falling. I am glad she can get help but somehow it is a real problem for both of your parents. All my flowers like this including coneflowers are completely dead from the drought. I don't want to trim them back as I hope birds could get some seeds out of them.

  15. An appropriate flower for your post. Falling is such a hazard to our elders. I work extra hard at not falling but it sure could be easy to do.

  16. My Dad fell many times but one time our step Mom couldn't get him up. After that it was off to personal care.

  18. I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad's fall. I know how difficult that is for everyone. Mom hasn't fallen...yet but I've finally convinced her to use a rolling walker. She balked but after her first stroll to the dining room, she loves it!
    Prayers for all.
    Blessings
