Is it the times or our age?
Many people that we know are struggling with health problems.
My cousin Sam's wife Kathy died on Friday from Gallbladder Cancer, she fought the good fight and had Doctors from Mayo Clinic taking care of her. The year that they gave her to live quickly became weeks then days. She was 58 years old.
Far Guy's sister remains at home with Hospice care. Far Guy facetimes with her every day, sometimes I pop by and wave and say Hi or hold Sadie up so she can see her...she needs to talk with her brother. She has Leptomeningeal carcinoma a result of Metastatic Breast Cancer. February 17 she was given a few weeks to a few days and she is still hanging in there.
We have other friends...with medical conditions...Granular Glass Fibrosis, Mylelofibrosis, Follicular Lymphoma. Big bad words.
Time...time to build your own ( pine box) coffin, write your obituary, plan your service and wrap up loose ends. Some people are greatful for that extended time to get their house in order and prepare.
On a side note if the building you store the pine box in is for sale you should move it or explain to prospective buyers beforehand!
Prayers for comfort for all those struggling with health issues.
Far Side
The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
I am so sorry for all you must face. All we can hope for is a good death after having led a good life. I think.
ReplyDeleteIt really does seem to hit many at once - - like in waves. Some of those waves are tsunamis that no one saw coming. Same thing is happening to some of my friends.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry. It does seem that age brings with it the decline of health. Thus far, I've been more than lucky and for that I'm grateful.
ReplyDeleteBut I do believe that one needs to be prepared for the inevitable. A will, funeral planning, and a discussion with family is a good idea. I learned that when my mom passed away, almost everything had been decided.
I think it is our age. I recall 25 years ago going to a family reunion and sitting next to a table of 60,70+ aged folks. Their conversations seemed to involve who had what and medical ailments along with procedures.
ReplyDeleteOf course being young myself I just wrote it off to old folk talk. Just like my own grandparents did at that age.
Now I realize that I think this is a natural progression.
I've been thinking the same thing - too much illness around me. I have friends and family too with major medical issues. One brother-in-law has ALS and he has far exceeded his original prognosis but we're noticing some decline lately. I'm trying to appreciate my own relatively good health.
ReplyDeleteTerry and I have noticed this also---it's our ages. Time is a gift.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has lymphoma, too. It seems to be a mild case for now. And as I've said before, I do know I won't die young. :-)
ReplyDeleteYep, Jerry and I have had medical issues most of our lives that just continue to worsen over the years... aging is so fun. We know loads of folks with various cancers and just as many who have died of various cancers over the years. In the past decade, I have seen at least 23 people I knew personally in elementary, junior high, and high school who died so young from whatever they had... such as my high school boyfriend who died at age 63 from cancer three years ago. Just something we all face. But regardless... Please know we are keeping Far Guy's sister in our daily prayers and lifting your whole family to the Lord to cover everyone with strength and grace and peace. Sending you lots of hugs and blessings, Connie! I think of you daily for what you guys are going through!
ReplyDeleteI think it's our age that brings more illnesses and death. Inevitable, but nevertheless hard to accept.
ReplyDeleteVery true. Knowing more people with health issues and losing some of them. Makes every day precious. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel very fortunate that my diseases are in remission and they are not life threatening. That is what I've been doing...Swedish death cleaning and getting my ducks in a row!
ReplyDeleteI think it is more our age. More and more of my family and friends are getting ill and passing away. I remember my mother commenting on it when it began happening to her. It makes each and every day we have on this earth very precious. Sending hugz, Mxx
ReplyDeleteYou know the Lord is our best hope. Sister found a man near home to build her a plain cedar coffin/box. She’s called the funeral home and has written her obit. Last fall she placed her stone at the grave yard. I’m weird. I really don’t want a funeral and would select cremation. But when we’re gone someone else decides. Sister is going to keep her big box in her house til it’s needed. She said visitors can sit on it.
ReplyDeleteThe older we get the more health issues come along
ReplyDeleteYes, plans for the funeral to set the family at ease.
ReplyDeletePrayers indeed to all those struggling with health problems. Lucky indeed are those who are not. Not only lucky....but truly blessed in these days. In answer to your first question....it's most definitely the times!
ReplyDeleteIt does seem as if there is more illness now than ever before. I think that they are able to detect things so much earlier now due to all the new technology.
ReplyDeletePeace be with us all. Live life now.
ReplyDeletePrayers
ReplyDeleteAs everyone else has said, I think it's our age. So many are passing away and now, in our family, we have become the older generation. There are only two aunts, one uncle and Dennis's mom left out of 40 aunts and uncles. Yes, Mom had 10 siblings and Dad had 8. So 20 kids combined and their spouses. All but four are gone.
ReplyDeleteWe have had our headstone at the cemetery since I was pregnant with Mandy, so for over 42 years. Our cremation is paid for and the funeral will be at our church so that won't cost anything. We both have lists of favorite Bible verses and songs we would like sung or played. That's it. We know where we're going, we would just really like to go together so neither is left behind.
Take care and please know I'm praying for all of you.
Blessings,
Betsy
We are feeling/seeing an increase of similar. Likely age, medical advances and the times we live in. I try not to dwell on the unknown. Some days are easier than others.
ReplyDeleteI keep Gene and Jenn in my daily prayers.
ReplyDeleteTed and his 2 brothers are going through helping his dad prepare for his funeral plans and estate planning. We did ours 20 years ago. Time to update them though!
I keep seeing more and more people my age passing away. Some are just townspeople from our old place and some are relatives. It has been a year since we lost our dear friend.
ReplyDeleteA lot of Tom and my friends have passed away since Tom died. It brings me the realization that each day is precious, even the days when I don't feel well. And I am happy for the days when I do feel well.
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss. Though glad Far Guy's sister is still hanging in there. Yes, there are a lot of people with health issues these days. Maybe it's just that we notice more because we can connect to people all over the place more easily?
