Keeping Sadie busy

Two old foggies should never have a puppy with more energy than them.

This is a Sadie mess.

She has so many toys that we put some away to re-introduce on a day when she is really bored or when she needs to be distracted!   She has on going issues with her toy box and has this one mostly chewed up.

We made up a new game.  It tires her out and doesn't tire us out....win win!

The stairs!  I sit at the top of the stairs with some of her kibble, Far Guy sits in the office with some kibble.   We take turns saying "Sadie Come"...and when she comes we reward her with a couple of pieces of kibble.  She runs back and forth cornering at the bottom of the stairs...and navigates another corner into the office.

She is behaving at night being out of the kennel, she lets herself out the doggie door, we can hear her running back into the house at night.  I believe that we have the doggie door conquered as she lets herself out during the day.  Yeah us!

On her bed in the kitchen.  (Where she gets an occasional treat!)

  1. That is a sure fire way of getting her to respond to her name! Hah hah on old foggies with dogs.
I was discussing that with hubby yesterday, we were remarking how chilled Charlie is compared to Morris who was always charged up.
Sadie will become that beautiful quiet and wonderful dog her breed is so famous for.

  2. I love the idea of you wearing her out and not yourself. Sadie sounds like she is very intelligent and learns quickly - good for you and Far Guy.

  3. She is getting so big. She’s learning to be “good dog”.

  4. She has grown so much and lost that "baby" look already. Great idea having her run the stairs.

  5. Your floor looks like ours! Zoey's toys are everywhere. She has actually put them away in the box a few times by herself. I think it was an accidental game though because it sure doesn't repeat often! :-) Love the way you wear Sadie out. That's brilliant. We may try it too. She really is a beautiful dog. Her feet are still huge in proportion to her body.

  6. Burton's favourite place to play with toys is on the stairs. He loves it when I throw his ball or mouse up or down the stairs

  7. Too funny! It reminds of when the kids were little and their toys would be scattered all over. Great game to tire HER out and not YOU! I never had a doggy door but then I never had a fenced in yard either. I just trained them to stay in their yard which meant lots of running around the neighborhood when they were little! I can't do that anymore. LOL! Sadie is growing so big...her parents aren't going to recognize here when they get home!

  8. I can't believe how fast she is growing either. A real beauty.

  9. Yay Sadie :-D. Bea has a stash of trash toys that she plays with to and from the barn and house. Interestingly they all end up gathered in the same spots...which still looks like we don't know how to pick up our garbage... ;-)

  10. Sadie is growing so quickly. She's looking so grown up - even when she doesn't act that way. Sounds like a fun game for all of you.:)

  14. Your story of tiring Sadie out made me chuckle. Reminded me of that saying of "don't mess with us old folks, we're smarter than we look"! She's a beautiful pup!

  15. She’s getting big! Clever you to use the stairs to tire her out.

  16. She is just adorable, and I love the idea you have come up with to tire her out but not yourselves. :-)

  17. I was terrible with my daughter's dog. I stood on top of a hill and threw her ball down the hill. Finally she quit chasing the ball on account of lack of interest.

  22. Look how big that puppy is! She is at the lanky stage now it appears. So very precious! Once again I will say that she is going to miss you terribly when you go home. It has been good timing for you to be there though because you have had the time to entertain and train her. She looks so huggable - - if she sits still for hugs?

  23. Yeah, I'm sure you guys get tired far quicker than her as a rule. Glad you found a way to tire her out without tiring yourselves out so much. And, as a bonus, it works on her recall command. Oh, and awesome about her getting the hang of just doing the doggy door instead of waiting for you to go let her out.
