Bee Happy!

I finally got around to decorating the wreath for June.

Home is where your honey bee!

Yesterday was another warm day ( 91 F) I worked outside in the morning before it got real hot...took care of some Poison Ivy and some ant trails.  I ran out of Diatomaceous Earth...my preferred way to attack ants ...by desiccating their little bodies.  Yes I am real happy killing the Poison Ivy along the roads and at the edge of the woods...and those horrid black ants that bite are just a bugger....sometimes if I stand near a nest they will crawl in through the holes in my crocs and bite me...and frankly that really pisses me off!

See that black line ...that is an ant super highway that goes right by my Lilac that didn't bloom this year and to the base of an Oak Tree.

Splendor Report: Far Guy beat me again...I gave it a good try,  I declared that I won and he got an extra turn and overtook my score.  Far Guy 4 me 1.

  1. I love your wreath. Also, the butterfly in your last post is a beauty. I have ants in my yard too. We have had two nice rains in the past week. Glad you are enjoying visitors again,

  2. Those black ants look and sound terrible. They remind me of Fire Ants down south. We have always been plagued by carpenter ants around here. Lilac bushes around here didn't do much blooming this year - very strange. Have a good day.

  3. Woah that is a lot of ants! So DTE works on them? I used it all around my house a couple of years ago to keep earwigs and spiders out.

  4. We are fortunate not to have any poison ivy around here, but the ants... grrrr! My husband has tried lots of different remedies, they all work they just don't last! Right now we are on a mission to rid the yard of squirrels... it's always something isn't it?

  5. Cute summery decor! Ant habits are interesting, until they get into everything and worse yet they bite you. I completely forgot to look up that game!!

  6. Fortunately where I live now, we don't have ant problems. Well I should say rarely. My oldest learned the hard way why she shouldn't keep candy in her bedroom.

  7. We had a similar black ant problem in our previous house when we moved there. The first few years we just couldn't get rid of them. Then one summer we dug up all of the juniper bushes along the front of the house, and replaced them. We must have destroyed their "housing" at the same time because they didn't come back. Just a lucky break for us, I'm sure.

  8. I think watermelon is a perfect wreath ornament for the early summer you are having this year.

  9. Once it gets so high the heat drives one inside. I don't want those kind of ants. They look like trails that the voles leave in the winter. I watered things in front, talked to my neighbor for a short while and then I had to get inside. Take care you two.

  10. I love the wreath, very nice! It seems that everyone is dealing with bugs this year. So far (knock wood) I haven't any major issues. Good luck getting rid of them!

  11. Biting ants and poison ivy are no fun at all. Sounds like you're going to have to step up your game and stop letting Far Guy beat you all the time!

  12. Where in MN do you live? My sister lives in Richfield but haven't seen her since 2019 thanks to COVID. I had a bad experience with fire ants but didn't know that black ants bite, too. Is it a special type of black ant? Glad you're anti-poison ivy! It can make people really sick.

  13. I am over this heat wave, too! And insects bother me even more when it is humid. Those blasted ants! I hope you win this battle.

  14. You can't Bee Happy when you have ants biting you. Go get 'em!

  15. I mix borax and icing sugar and sprinkle it around the nest or entry point. They take it into the nest and it kills them all.

  16. Ants are a big nuisance. Most of the ants here are in the peonies.
