Time

The famous clock in town  is never right unless it is 2 or 11.

It is a two sided clock.  I heard someone worked on it...

Photos were taken about a minute apart.

I have often wondered how many tourists are fooled by this never changing time piece.

Time...there never seems to be enough...and we don't know exactly how much time we have left.

In the bottom photo you can see one of the retirement homes off to the left...it is called Court Apartments.  I think it has six stories...practically a high rise.  ( The Fire Dept had to get ladder truck after that building was built.)  Far Guy's parents moved into that building in 1994 after they sold their home...Far Guy's Dad only lived there about six weeks.  Far Guy's Mom lived alone in her apartment on the Third Floor until she moved into the Nursing Home in about 2005.  (The ladies on the Third Floor had little tags they would hang on their doors every morning that said "I am okay!"  They took turns checking on each others doors every morning.)

  1. Reminded me immediately of the old saying..'even a broken clock is right twice a day' So would this one be right 4 times a day?? Even more optimism ..lol

    Have a great week

  4. I agree that putting a tag to let your neighbors know you are okay is a great idea. :-)

  5. My MIL used to live in an apartment and until she was placed in the nursing home, the other residents tried their best to help her out as well as Helping Hands. I liked her place!
What a good idea with the tags.
Time. I was thinking of that just as I left the nursing home visit with my MIL. I don't know how much either MIL or hubby have left, but I want to spend my time with them.

  6. With such caring neighbors she was never alone. I love the way strangers come together as family to watch out for each other. Even blogging buddies do this.

  7. I worked in a senior building where residents could elect to join the health check group.
There were six groups--one on each floor in each wing of the three story sprawling building. They used signs on the door, too, and were run by volunteers who took turns being the checker for a week. It's a brilliant and practical idea.

Funny clock! I wonder if they'll ever get it working again. :)

  8. They have a 'calling tree' here in town and someone will call you at 8:00 in the morning to see if you lived through the night. I have not signed up....yet. But no one checks on me and no one visits unless they want something. I like the door sign...especially for a group that knows each other and are really neighbors. They also suggest giving a key to the Sheriff's department just in case....I don't think so...not here. I've learned the hard way not to be too trusting down here....they still do not like "Yankees"....imagine that after all these years!

  9. Love that clock...and it's still correct four times a day! I think the note on the door is a brilliant idea. You still have your privacy and no need to open the door to a knock unless you want to, but it will be noticed if your note isn't there.
I would like to get an apartment in a senior building if and when we move to Nebraska. No more shoveling in the cold or mowing in the heat, but Dennis is still unsure. We're still fairly young. I'm 59 and he's 63. I don't like the idea of a regular apartment though with the noise and parties. Still a few years to make a decision though.
Have a great day! Enjoy the time!
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. Moving into an apartment home - one floor & no steps - was the best thing I've done in a long time.

  11. I love hearing how the ladies checked on each other. My mother and her neighbor always checked to see if the window shades were up next door. Then they knew the other was up and OK.

  12. I guess whoever is responsible for the clock assumes everyone has a watch or phone that gives the correct time. Funny though, that they don't take it down.

The tag idea is one I've heard of before. I think it's a great idea!

  13. No bottom photo but I sure do LOVE the idea of hanging tags on doors. Back when we were first married, in 1976, we quickly moved out of our original apartment and into a different one across town. It was only a two-story but most of the folks who occupied that particularly building were retirees... and then mostly women. They would have dinner at each others' apartments on occasion and would go out for dinner as a group. It looked wonderful. Now, from what I've been told, it's "illegal" in a general apartment complex to group residents together by age. I think that's such a shame. I wish we had a retirement mobile home complex in our area, where all the residents were 62+. I think that would be such a grand idea. Love, Andrea xoxo

  14. I love how the ladies looked after each other. One of my older friends calls her daughter every morning to check in. If she forgets, her daughter calls her. I think it's great.

  15. The tag on the door is a great idea, unobtrusive but gets the job done. My mom is under strict orders to text us every morning and evening and she is pretty good about doing it. She’s 92 and we worry about her! Those old clocks seem to be difficult to keep going. I never trust ours to be right.

  17. I think that clock in town would drive me crazy. But that's just me! The story of Far Guy's parents sound about like mine, after we moved them into an apartment. Had my last chemo today. Hallelujah! Got your card, oh you do keep me in prayer and care so well. I am forever grateful! :) Love that flower pic on your card! God Bless you both.

  19. The school where I worked had a tower clock that didn't work for almost twenty years. During one of our renovations they fixed it and it has kept perfect time ever since. So sweet that the residents looked out for each other.

  21. Hanging a little sign on your door to let others know you're okay is such a good idea. Today both my DH and i were zonked and fell asleep on the porch..me on the swing and him on the couch out there. I told him later that if we died there no one would discover it for a long time. They'd just peek out, see us lying there, assume we were asleep and leave us alone.

  22. We did an art show a few years back that was in the second floor of a bank. The bank had changed hands but it too was not a fictional clock on the corner of the building.
