Anyways I am thankful for friends who sew. When they say they have sewed all day and into the night…I think…wow…sounds more like a prison sentence to me.

My neighbor/friend down the road Jo is also a seamstress. She amazes me with her creations!
This is a way cool bag with a top that snaps open and shut. It is called a snap bag or metal measuring tape bag. It is the perfect size for my Ipad and a few other things! To open the bag you just pull on the triangles.
I am not sure how these gals come up with all their sewing ideas…
I so admire people who sew. I used to sew my own clothes years ago, but gave it up when I started working full time. Now i just mend things by hand.

ReplyDeleteI've seen the "snap bags" but I've never been adventurous enough to make one. The biggest drawback is not having an old metal tape measure to cut apart. They're too expensive to destroy a new one.

ReplyDeleteWonderful and practical gifts. I used to make most of my clothes but I can’t sit at my sewing machine anymore because of my back. I have never seen the snap bags before. I probably wouldn’t be talented enough to make one anyway. :-). Straight seams an pd easy things are about all the further I ever progressed.

Used to sew a lot when Dagan was little and a young boy. Since then it is just in spurts for various projects. These are both really nice! Wonderful gifts! :)

ReplyDeleteMy sister sews. I never liked it. At all. I have a friend who does art quilts that are wonderful. I love her work enough that I bought one. She uses sewing as a sort of relaxing therapy. I'm more like you, it would be awful to have to spend any time at all doing sewing!
ReplyDeleteMy mom sew due to necessity as well as my wife in her early years. She sew her own bridal veil with all the lace edging and beads. I kept stepping on it during the reception. One of my classmates inherited my moms two sewing machines and she never quits thanking me for them. I like the hand cover for the cast iron skillet. It makes a lot of sense. Keep trudging along in the sand.
ReplyDeleteI love your gifts! Yes, Henny is a wonderful seamstress and she has a great blog too. I like to sew quilts and crafty items but not clothes. I can sew on my machine but I'm not good by hand due to arthritis.

ReplyDeleteI used to sew lots. I made my wedding dress, a suit for Larry, shirts, etc. Then I discovered thrifting, haha, and I think sewing clothes went downhill quickly. I have never been interested in quilting really, that requires too much measuring for me. The sewing I do now is pretty basic, aprons, bags, fairly simply stuff. Some things take a simple pattern or the piece to be measured to get started, but after that I just eyeball and sew away, and It all works out fine ;-) I did very little sewing last year, almost none, but have a huge fabric stash, so really need to get back into it this year to use up my stock, since this will be my last year full time at the market. How nice of Henny to send you the gifts. Those handle covers for frying pans are so handy. I was going to make a couple for us, but have found some at the thrift store for pennies, lol.

ReplyDeleteThose are really nice gifts! I love practical gifts that have a use and those surely do. I was just looking at a pattern for crocheting those pot handle covers. I love to sew or rather make things but by the end of the day I am tired so I have to start early!

We have had two day without rain and I've raked leaves until when I shut my eyes I still see leaves. I love that little zippered bag. Thank you Far Side.
ReplyDeleteI sew when I feel like it. I'm going to get out some fabric scraps tomorrow and start designing some more place mats or table toppers, just for fun and to have projects during these dark winter months.

ReplyDeleteI can hem garments, but my other hand stitching is limited to tailoring and general garment construction. I occasionally enjoy piecing quilting tops (by machine), but actual quilting is limited to following the pieced design.
Be it sewing, knitting, crocheting, tatting or something unfamiliar, I sincerely appreciate the hand work of others. When I am inspired and attempt different modes of making, I usually discover I have zero talent in that area.
Eye candy is a wonderful thing--with no calories!
