A local church has an annual “thank meal” on Thanksgiving Day. 48 turkeys were cooked. My parents got there before we did so they were seated with a different group, they were with friends. It was a meal of turkey, potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans and a bunch of side salads and of course pie…I had pumpkin and Far Guy had blueberry. The food was good, we sat with a couple from Butler Minnesota…they drove a long way for a meal.
The squirrels were busy in our yard stuffing themselves.
They are fat little buggers. We fill this feeder for them so they leave our other feeders alone. If it gets empty they come up to the window and peer in as if to say…feed us…NOW we are starving! We feed eight squirrels… seven are gray and one is black/brown.
Love it! I wish we had a feeder out to watch the birds but the other half doesn't care for them very much...maybe one day!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely Thanksgiving... For you and the squirrels. ;)
ReplyDeleteYour dinner sounded yummy...no fuss no muss! I had some turkey and mashed potatoes but that's as far as I got because I wanted to watch the game. I'm glad you feed the squirrels...I think they get a bad rap as they need to eat too.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a lovely Thanksgiving. We don't encourage the squirrels. They are lots of fun to watch but we had one chew through the house trying to get inside and they can do a lot of damage.
ReplyDeleteYour dinner sounds delicious. Eating out is the way to go. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Thanksgiving was pleasant. Tom and I had dinner at our daughter's house.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great meal. I love pumpkin pie and would choose it over berry pie any day. That is one fat squirrel! :-)
ReplyDeleteIt sounds as though you had a great meal. That’s a lot of turkeys to cook. I’m glad you had a good day. Squirrels can be greedy little things can’t they?
ReplyDeleteBlessings,

How, and where, do you roast 48 turkeys! Some church folks went to a lot of work to prepare that meal, which I'm sure was greatly appreciated. You got fed, and then you fed the critters. Good day all around.
ReplyDeleteThey have lots of women with roasters:)
DeleteWow! That sounds like quite a spread they put on!
ReplyDeleteThat really is a fat squirrel. Your squirrels should last the winter easily--LOL! I do just plain love all kinds of rodents--as long as they stay out of the house--LOL!
Sounds like you two are feeling better. Nice!
I love your squirrels, Connie. We have loads too, mostly black ones with an occasional sprinkling of grey and once-in-awhile brown. The colonies seem to change every year. At one time browns were all we had but now the blacks have taken their place. Did you know that squirrels usually live on the same 3 acres their whole lives? They don't venture all that far. Lovingly, Andrea xoxo
ReplyDeleteGreat way to have a fine Thanksgiving meal.
ReplyDeleteI wish I had more grey squirrels. Only have the red ones. They do tend to get into a lot of mischief. Sounds like a good idea for Thanksgiving dinner!
ReplyDeleteThe local senior center served a free meal for the community on Thanksging: they served over 300. All the food was donated.
ReplyDeleteStarved? Don't let them fool you. That squirrel looks quite pudgy to me. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhat a good idea... getting together with a large group for the Thanksgiving meal.
ReplyDeleteIt all sounds delicious.
It sounds like you had a wonderful Thanksgiving without all the cooking and cleaning. That's the way to do it! You have great pictures of the squirrels. We have quite a few squirrels in our yard and I get a kick out of watching them play. Our two cats love to watch them as well!
ReplyDeleteIt was really nice you got to see your parents even though you didn’t get to sit and eat with them. Our Thanksgiving was late in the evening and some of the store bought food didn’t taste very good. Our turkey was good and we now have a lot of leftover meat to eat. The family was a little tired from their six hour drive but the adults enjoyed the whole big meal thing. It was great the one daughter came for a quality visit before the holiday.
ReplyDeleteThat is one FAT squirrel! Can't wait to show Poppy. He complains about the squirrels eating his deer corn.
