The Purple Coneflowers or Echinacea purpurea are in bloom. They had a tough winter, many old established plants were killed by the freeze and thaw cycle.
I had a few survivors that make a living bouquet for me to enjoy.
Chance brought me the ball last night, he has not wanted to play ball at all. It must be the steroids in the medications. He is VERY hungry…and thinks we are starving him. He stands by the treat drawer and whines…and whines…which usually gets him another treat…not yet we tell him. He pouts a bit and then finally lays down and sighs. HE IS SO DRAMATIC! His Vet called again to check up on him. I think Chance has turned the corner this time…but he is an old dog….so you never know. Elder Dog Care continues.
Oh, I hope so! Bob is rooting for you, Chance.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful coneflowers, They always winter-killed in my garden, too. I never could keep them going. And I was south of you.
Good for you both and Chance. I'm happy for you. I know Mr. Morris had a huge turn around when he got on proper meds and he tried to make up for his weight loss. He even got more vocal about exactly when I should feed him.
ReplyDeleteI have some flowers that are more purple reddish than these cone flowers. My stepdaughter gave them to me. I stuck them next to the house and need to find a better place next spring for them!
My coneflowers had a rough winter too... about half of them didn't survive. Way to go Chance... keep getting better and treats will be yours soon!

ReplyDeleteI think winter here was hard on them too. There are none at "wildflower" place down the road that usually has them blooming all over the yard.
ReplyDeleteChance had you well trained, lol, glad you able to resist him now! Bringing his ball, that's a great sign, poor guy though, eating the same boring thing every day. Hopefully that will be able to change soon. I used to have coneflowers, well I used to have a lot of things, until I didn't keep up with the weeds.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you had a few survivors. If your climate is as good for them as ours in southwest Ohio, they will bounce back next year and soon be stronger than ever. I hope they do. I would have a hard time resisting Chance's whines even though I know that is what I would have to do.

ReplyDeleteThose coneflowers are gorgeous. I have never had much luck growing them. It sounds like Chance is doing very well. I would have such a hard time resisting the whining. Chloe knows exactly what time she eats and what time she gets her big dog bone at night. If we don’t give it to her when she knows it’s time, she won’t sit still. These dogs. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteLove those cone flowers! Nitty doesn't play at all anymore but I have her toys out in the garage near her bed so she at least has them for company and old times sake. Both the girls are doing much better with the Vetprofin. IT takes the pain and stiffness away and Annie is even doing the stairs again but not Nitty. I hate whining from people or animals...lol!
ReplyDeleteBarney has finally realized that we are starving him and he can’t do anything about it. We cut down his food to make his weight go down. He is able to walk better with out a lot a weigh on his body. Barney’s eyesight problem keeps him pretty well slowed down and I tend to use touches to help him know where we are going. He still senses and knows where things are in the house. I read that their sense of smell really can keep us from knowing that he is isn’t seeing well at all.
