The Lady’s Slippers are blooming right on time. Father’s Day to July 1st is their time.
Along our driveway the Yellow Lady’s Slipper ( Cypripedium parviflorum) is blooming. There are five blooms this year, most are in the heavy brush/poison ivy. This one is near the road. Sadly another plant in that area succumbed to my Poison Ivy Spray. Sometimes I am a bit agressive with that spray in my attempts to rid of the woods of Poison Ivy…thirty lashes with a wet noodle for me.
This is the second year that our Yellow Slippers over in the wildflower gardens have not bloomed…lots of foliage but no blooms.
The Minnesota State Flower is also in bloom. Showy Lady’s Slipper or Cypripedium reginae.
These are over on Ashley’s Road. The clumps there seem to get larger every year.
We are fortunate to live in an area where the Native Wildflowers are found along many of the roads and highways.
Beautiful flowers, thanks for sharing them.
ReplyDeleteI have yet to find Lady's Slippers. I am pretty sure that we don't have the right kind of landscape for them to really prosper.
ReplyDeleteThese are beautiful.
Pauline's mentioned seeing Showy Lady's Slipper down here, but not at the places we go together.
ReplyDeleteIt's summer, and your pretty Lady's Slippers make me smile with appreciation. Love your new header, too. Chance looks happy. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe have to find Lady Slippers in special places. The one I told Jeanne Estridge about it is Cedar Bog near Urbana, Ohio. I've written about it in a few blogs.
ReplyDeleteIf I were to buy a summer home in Minnesota, I would have to have proof of Lady Slippers growing in the area. From what I hear from many people that the summer home market is nil to nothing. My cousin bought a trailer.
ReplyDeleteIn our area there are many lake homes for sale:)
DeleteLove the photos of the Lady Slippers. I don't believe I've ever seen one in person!
ReplyDeleteYour Lady Slippers are so lovely. They don't grow in our woods here.
ReplyDeleteThey are so delicate and beautiful. We have them here but I have not seen one in many years. Hugs, lj
ReplyDeleteAlways look forward to seeing your Lady's Slippers.
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely!!! :)
ReplyDeleteLady slippers are my favorite wild flower. They seem to vary as some years they don't do well in a spot and 2 or 3 years later they take off and bloom.
ReplyDeleteOh no! Sorry about the Poison Ivy part. The Lady Slippers are beautiful. Thanks for sharing your photos
ReplyDeleteI was reading just this week that the Pink Lady Slipper takes up to 15 years to grow and actually bloom. That seems like a long time.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing the Yellow Lady slipper on the prairies.
The Lady's slippers are beautiful! I can't decide which color I like the best! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! I think Lady’s Sippers are one of the loveliest flowers.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Finding Lady Slippers has got to be just the most special feeling! I remember a long, long time ago finding a few of the northwest variety in a neighbor's woods. I still remember the experience clearly.
