Grass flowers

Have you ever noticed that grass gets a flower?

Grass in bloom

The flowers hang down like tiny ornaments.

Of course you have to count on roadside “ditch grass” to tell this story.  I mowed again on Friday…then yesterday it rained again…so the grass will grow again….it seems that is the story for June…rain..mow..repeat.

  1. No, I have never noticed that before. I'll check it out and hope nobody calls the cops about the old lady down peering in the grass. :-)

    1. Look in the taller larger grass plants. Look soon after the grass has headed out.

  2. Mow, repeat...and so on. When I worked, we had to walk around a prairie with all sorts of neat plants. My boss would point out all the neat grasses and I'd point out all the neat wildflowers. Nice shot, I love it. I have noticed this grass does have ornaments! If one stops and really looks, most plants have something incredible to offer.

  5. Sounds familier, mow, rain, repeat.

  6. Is that the tall prairie grass? Looks familiar to me from the wild fields near my house growing up. It was so dry in he spring they had fire watches but now we've been getting rain frequently and every thing is growing like crazy! :)

  8. Neither have I ever noticed flowers on grass. Seeds, yes. Flowers, no.

  9. We're leaving for the funeral in a couple of days and my Hubby is worrying that the grass won't be mowed for two weeks. It will be a jungle by the time we get home. He worries it's a giveway that we're not home since it's always mowed nicely.
