Having a flower garden here under the bird feeders where squirrels eat flowers, dig them up or break them off and where bears walk in the dappled shade of the Oaks is a challenge.
I bought flowers at two different places. Red, white, blue and yellow are the colors I wanted in the garden.
One tray of plants…the other got planted instead of photographed!
These are mostly new plants to this garden…we will see how they do.
Impatiens(red and white), Salvia (blue), Lantana( yellow), Begonia (red), Browallia (blue), Snapdragons (yellow), Lobelia (blue) and Pansy (blue). I wasn’t going to get snapdragons but they were yellow…what can I say.
I planted yesterday…in the rain…I was out there and had half of it planted when it began to rain…so I just enjoyed the rain and finished my project as it was the one thing I wanted to accomplish yesterday…well that and the third time mowing the lawn.
I trimmed around trees while keeping Odda company until her Mom came to get her. Our not so perfect lawn is a nice color green anyway…the dandys drive me nuts but the bees like them.
Lantana
Far Guy picked these Pansies, they are not exactly the color he wanted…but he said “close enough.” I think he was tired of wandering around greenhouses with me.
Hopefully the bear is elsewhere…he hasn’t been here for several nights…when I was planting I thought about that bear and wondered where he was.
That is going to be so pretty when it fills in and grows up! I see you follow the wise Minnesota rule: Don't plant until after Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks so pretty. Wish I had planted flowers but I just didn't have the ambition this year to plant any this year. I have already mowed 3 times this year. Not happy about that.
ReplyDeleteIt's that time, isn't it? Planting, rain, mowing... beats shoveling snow. And the green grass looks better than the white that went on.... and on... and on. Love the flowers you chose. Officer Friendly had trouble identifying some flowers. The ones he didn't know, he called snapdragons.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I love the flowers and of course you'd get anything yellow. I planted snapdragons this year, too, but they haven't got any flowers yet. :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful flowers. I planted a few yesterday too. Hubby’s been mowing for over a month now here. He seems to enjoy it though. He has to mow here and at the lake. I hope that beer decides to stay far, far away from your birdfeeders and your beautiful flowers.
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Betsy
The flowers are lovely. I believe I'd be planting and scoping for the bear with a large, loud horn of some kind to scare him off.
ReplyDeleteLooking like summer is coming soon to your place,
ReplyDeleteonly about 3 weeks and it will be Hot hot here.
You are a lady of so many talents.
ReplyDeleteThey look great! I hope the bear stays away--and the squirrels leave the flowers alone. :)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I think I'd move the bird feeder out of the garden for the summer, to give the flowers their best chance! Hope the squirrels don't make a mess of it!
ReplyDeleteYikes! I'm happy to not have a bear around here!
ReplyDeleteA small flower garden is better than no flower garden at all. :) I love yours! Blessings~ Andrea
ReplyDeleteNice flowers! Sure hope that bear stays away. That almost makes our bunnies look very welcome. Squirrels can be pesky, can't they?
ReplyDeleteThings are looking up as far as spring is concerned.
ReplyDeleteHow good to see everything green now! I know you'll enjoy your flower garden, as long as the squirrels and bears, Oh My! don't.
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful! Hope they do really well for you this year. Since we moved into a condo a year and a half ago, we just have big pots of red geraniums outside and impatiens hanging on the deck. I miss the days when I used to grow many roses. Now I send them to my daughter to plant in her yard! Love your little garden!!!
ReplyDeleteNice flowers. I like Snapdragons and planted some again this year. I noticed that the pot I had them in last year is now jam packed with little Snapdragon seedlings. I better thin them out soon.
ReplyDeleteI hope that bear stays away from your feeders and your flowers!
Always love your flower photos. I was surprised to hear you had yellow lantana. Ours is purple. Didn't know there was any other kind, but when I saw your photo, realized it must be an entirely different variety. The leaves look different, too, though the flower shape is similar. Ours is a pretty drought-resistant variety, good for our long, dry summers.
ReplyDeleteYour yard looks so pretty! I got some flowers marked down at Walmart...don't! they all died and were full of bugs. I have a daisy and a marigold in the front but that's all. I've mowed twice and could mow again but it's been raining and wet and ow today is nice but I have other things to do. It's nice today but it's getting hot....90's.
