I went down on my baby brother’s dock and sat for a bit on Wednesday evening. Watched the Loons. I am not sure how many pairs are on the lake this year, last year there were 3 or 4 pairs. Last year the nasty Bald Eagles took the babies that were born on the North end of the lake…it was heart wrenching to listen to…Loons wailing and crows cawing…
I sat and enjoyed the breeze off the lake. Only one pontoon was making the rounds.
The Marsh Marigolds are in bloom. They are Caltha paulustris but another name for them is Cowslips; because they grow on hummocks and cows can slip on them.
Last night my Dad and I went to Bingo…we were losers..so we will try again next week.
Badly needed rain is forecast for the next few days.
With all the rain we have had lately I am surprised you didn't get any of it. Love the lake pictures, so peaceful. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to be moving fast into our dry period. The garden requires watering every day now. :-(
ReplyDeleteA strong storm raged through here yesterday, so maybe it will build up strength and come your way.
ReplyDeleteI hope the loons' babies will be safe this year.
Love your country! (in the spring, summer and fall) I also am impressed with your extensive knowledge of so many things.
ReplyDeleteOh the rain was so nice yesterday. Actually came down steadily for a while instead of light drizzle. It's like the grass was leaping up to meet the sun today.
ReplyDeleteSo sad to lose the baby loons. Eagles have to eat, too, I guess, but I feel the same way when the hawk swoops in and snatches little birds here. It is so fast I have only heard the rukus and seen the scattered feathers.
We have loons on our lake here too, in fact it’s called Loon Lake. However, they are only here in the spring and then they leave. We had such a cold, wet spring I missed them completely this year. Your pictures look so relaxing and peaceful. Thanks for sharing with us. Blessings, Betsy
ReplyDeleteYou sound very content. Lakes with loons can do that.
ReplyDeleteI could spend a long time on that dock if I had a comfortable chair.
ReplyDeleteHow sad about the bald eagles getting the baby birds. You and Far Guy had some great greenhouses! I'm catching up again!
ReplyDeleteI have plants I call Cowslips but they are not the same as yours. Same lovely yellow flowers but I think mine are Primula veris.
ReplyDeleteLoon babies are so cute. Too bad the Eagles got them.A baby Loon wouldn't even be a small snack for an Eagle.
It looks very peaceful there on the dock.
ReplyDeleteThe bald eagles do dominate things when they take babies from nests. I remember seeing the marsh marigolds when I would go north. Our bald eagle father disappeared from his nest a few weeks and mother eagle is raising them on her own. Our nest is next to a fish nursery so she has fish laying in the nest all the time.
