Making May Baskets

I was ahead of the game, back in March I visited Jen at a Craft Retreat and I used one of her dies that makes a basket.

The dye

The die is sandwiched between the paper and a piece or two of plastic and then run through a die cut machine.

I cut out lots of different colors.

lots of cutouts

At home I folded them and glued them together.  Most are lined with a coordinating color….which also makes the basket sturdy.

They are all set to be filled.  I bought some wrapped chocolate eggs and some other candy at the after Easter sale.  I will put a bit of pretty grass in the baskets or a bit of tissue paper and fill them with candy and on May 1st Far Guy and I will deliver a few.

Here is a link to more of my May Baskets over the years.

I challenge all of my readers to make one May Basket and give it to someone on May Day. It doesn’t have to be fancy…just do it!

  1. The grade school children in our neighborhood make and distribute May day baskets. It is so cute watching them run around and hang baskets on all the door knobs. Your baskets sure are pretty. Have a great weekend.

  3. So cute. Do they still give away wallpaper sample books? This would be a good way to use one.

  8. Perfect May Day baskets! I grew up in a small town, rural Kansas and we made May Day baskets by rolling a sheet of construction paper into a cone shape and adding a handle. We left them on the doors of elderly neighbors. I'll take your challenge and do at least one this year.

  9. I'm trying to decide if I will take up your challenge. The kids will be staying with us this week, and it might be fun to make baskets for them.

  10. Every year I think I want to do this but never end up with time. This year lambing is over a little early and I don't have a bottle lamb so I think I can do it! Always love this reminder!

  11. I have taken your challenge and distributed May baskets in past years. This year I'll do at least one and stick it on a friend's doorknob. :-)

  12. Those are so pretty! I have tried to give cookies at Christmas time to my neighbors and it didn't work out very well. I sent a card with them but some weren't home and I never heard back if they even got them or liked them and I tried to take some sweets to my new neighbor and she said no thanks as she was on a diet....at 80 years old! Who diets at 80? Not this gal! LOL! I might have to make one for myself though! Ha! Ha! Your friends and neighbors are very fortunate to have you!
