Chance : All about me

We got a Trail Cam just before Christmas, we can tell who comes and goes and how long they stay.  It has been pointed many different directions.

Mostly it catches me coming and going.  Helping to get the mail or feeding the birds or leading Far Guy around in the yard.

Gene and Chance

It also captures birds flying by, snow falling out of the trees and some weird glowing eyes at night and the Bunnies which I am not supposed to chase.

Far Side said she is amazed at the quality of the photos.

Yesterday was a get up at o dark thirty day, the old folks had to attend a class on Defensive Driving to save some $ on their automobile insurance.  They are pretty sneaky.  I got to go along but only as far as the groomers.  I got groomed and expressed and all those things that go along with a morning at the groomers.  I was very handsome but exhausted.   Everyone had a long afternoon nap after we got back home.

I still have some patchy dry skin problems.  I still have that nasty hemorrhoid/fistula/tumor too…Far Side likes the days that it totally disappears…but then it comes back again.  Now that I have been to the groomers my butt hair is much shorter, it will be easier to keep clean…or so someone says.  Far Side is real particular about my butt.  She says caring for an older dog is challenging and sometimes a crappy job.

I can go up the steps most days by myself, sometimes I need help and they put the harness with the handle on me.  I never come down the stairs by myself anymore.  I lay on the landing and when I want to come down I whine or bark…yes barking gets their attention, they bring up the harness and guide me down the stairs safely.  I play ball but not for very long.  I need help getting in and out of the car but I still like to go for a ride EVERY day!

  1. I took the class on defensive driving and a couple years later it was offered online, which was handier. I found it very worthwhile in addition to the discount on the car insurance.

  3. Glad they took the class. I did a few years ago and found it very helpful. Unfortunately I did NOT get a discount on my insurance. Happy to hear that life is treating you well. Always love hearing from you.

  7. Chance writes a good post. Hope his butt straightens up for a while. Had an old English Sheep Dog with that problem and wasn't that fun to take care of, good thing I loved him.

  8. Remember Chance, you are in charge. Put “Ride in the car” on top of the To Do list everyday. You have really good peeps so that should do the trick. You must look awesome after your trip to the spa. Be careful on those stairs, we don’t want a tumble.

  9. My big elderly dog occasionally gets Galliprant pills for movement issues, used to use Deramaxx. Both from the vet and very helpful although pricey. I see that it may warm up, weatherwise, for you!

  11. Hey, Chance, it sounds like you're taking good care of FarSide & FarGuy: getting them out of the house for your duties and up and down the stairs is good for them. I took the same driving class on Tuesday & Wednesday mornings.

  12. It was good to hear from you, Chance! It sounds like your people are pretty well trained and take good care of you. Let Far Side know that I'm very impressed with the image quality of the trail cam, too.

  14. That camera takes great pictures!
Glad you are such a smart dog who knows that you shouldn't try to go down the stairs by yourself and let them know to help you. You are always handsome, but especially after a trip to the groomers. ;)

  16. I love to see pictures from trail cams - especially when they catch unexpected visitors! Chance it is always so good to hear from you! You are one special boy but then I suspect you know that. I hope you get a ride in the car every day it is safe to go out!

  17. Mom and I love trail cams! You look good on camera! I understand that barking thing...people don't get it (sometimes) until you bark. In my case I howl...makes mom come running to see what I need. :) Your looking good Chance. Boomer

  18. Hi Chance, Glad you still enjoy those rides, walks to the mailbox and watching those bunnies. You are loved not only by your people, but all their blog friends too. Our Theo likes to take a ride in the car too.

  19. Thanks for the update, Chance. I almost needed a harness myself yesterday, for getting up the steps, but there is no one here could have lifted that load!

  20. You are one very fortunate dog, Chance. You get quite spoiled these days.

  21. Hi Chance! Glad to see you have some help. Mom is thinking about getting a harness for me (Nitty) but so far I have been able to manage. I'm a little scared about her with the harness...not sure she'll help me or hinder me so I keep trying to show her I can still go up and down the stairs and so far so good. Love the trail Cam...pretty cool! Mom had to have Grace the cat shaved for hygiene purposes too and she's about due again for another hair cut. Thank goodness Annie and I are short haired as Mom couldn't believe how much the cat cost! Miss Peeps is short haired too. Stay warm and don't let your paws get frost bite!

  22. Helping a dog down the stairs can be scary for the humans, especially if the dog gets going to much ahead. Hope you take it slow, Chance! Jake and Luna would only be happy if the car ride leads to the car stopping and everyone getting out for a WALK! Neither of them are dogs that are up peering out of the window, unless it is that time in the afternoon and they figure we are driving the 5 minutes to the dyke. So far Jake is doing pretty well, although sometimes I almost think that he has forgotten that he has been fed. He stands there looking like he is waiting for me to put his meal together, when I did it before we went for the walk, half an hour earlier.

  23. Oh Chance, you are simply adorable! Those patchy dry skin problems are miserable...sounds like my hands. You just may see a bear on that camera. We saw one our camera. You take it easy.
