Veteran’s Day

Today is the day to thank all the Veterans in our lives. Those that serve now and those who have served.  Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, Air National Guard, Army National Guard at home or overseas….THANK YOU!

My baby brother, my nephew, my dad and my husband.  Thank you all!

Luckily these family members made it home.

My Paternal Grandparents were not so lucky. Five of their twelve sons were in the military.

They all returned but one.

Arthur

Arthurs Gravesite

My Uncle Arthur is buried in the Sicily Rome American Cemetery in Italy.  He was 23 years old when he was wounded and died during the invasion of Italy.

Some gave all.

  2. Lovely remembrance post, and I also thank them for all they did. It's both a sad but proud day to remember, lest we forget.

  4. I have not known much about the invasion of Italy until I read the book of Monuments Men. The country was so embedded with Germans that it took so long to route them out. When I saw the waterpower I though maybe in was a cemetery here in the United States. You had a lot of family that served.

  5. Yes, they sure did. I don't understand how far our nation has slipped away from reverence and respect for our military. It breaks my heart.

  7. All of the men in my family (dad, husband, 2 brothers) served their country, and lived to tell about it, but I also found out recently that a "first cousin once removed" who served in WW 2 died of diptheria in a Japanese POW camp in the Philippines. Very sobering to think about how sad his parents must have been.
