This past week

Was cool.  The wind is raw and the humidity makes it feel colder than it is.  It spit snow all day yesterday but not enough to turn the ground white.

We had two family members in the hospital.  Our daughter Trica had a bowel obstruction that resolved itself after three days in the hospital.  My Dad spent two days in the hospital with a kidney and stomach infection.  Both are home now and recovering.

Two windows were washed….my desk is still a big mess with many projects started but none finished.

No new recipes were tried…but I do have an new recipe for Pumpkin Pie that I will try this week.

The Juncos are here and the little Redpolls showed up this week along with a few wayward Goldfinches that have their winter coats on.

We have a huge buck that has been cavorting around nearby with a couple of does…they escaped the mighty hunters.

Poor Chance has a hemorrhoid.  Makes me hurt to tend to it.  I am probably more bothered than he is.  He does not seem like he is in pain.  He has had problems before…and the Vet says to keep the area clean and use whatever hemorrhoidal remedy you have on hand.  Ears and butt…now I have to keep an eye on both.  He also has a little bit of dermatitis one spot on his belly and another on his right hip which we are treating with vitamin E.  His right rear leg is weak at times….he looses his footing sometimes, but still makes it up and down the stairs.  He has to be lifted into the car and when we let him out of the vehicle…I wrap a  strip of an old towel around his belly and I steady him and lift from above and assist his decent from the vehicle. He is very cooperative and knows to wait for me to encircle him with the strip of towel and get a good hold on it before he jumps off the seat. Yes we are eldercare for a dog.  I am certain he gets better care than some people.

  1. I'm glad your daughter and dad are out of the hospital in time to enjoy that pumpkin pie this week. Yes, Chance is a fortunate boy to have such loving care, but how can we help it when they bring us such joy.

  5. I understand elder care...I have hospice going on here for my very ancient and much loved kitty...Sam-Sam is is 17 and not doing well...but still doing. That is all I can ask for now. Sometimes he forgets to eat (demita, I think) so I have to force food in his mouth, then suddenly he goes...YUMMM I AM HUNGRY and eats. It's tough to watch him struggle, but at the same time a gift to still have him.

  6. Glad your family is well and out of the hospital. Chance is lucky you love him. It's hard when our pets/family members get older.

Chance--ya, you will be dog eldercare folk--hopefully for a long time. :) :) I'm glad he's taking it so well.

  10. I used to work on the surgery floor at the hospital. We had many patients with bowel obstructions. I'm glad her's resolved without surgery! Sounds like winter is creeping in on you! We are seeing lots of deer here too!

  12. I've heard that bowel obstructions can be life-threatening so Tricia is very fortunate to be okay now.
Chance is also very lucky...to have such wonderful caring people.
IF the new pumpkin pie recipe turns out tasty maybe you'll share it?

  13. I feel badly for Chance. It seems things just get complicated as they get older. Barney is in need of a bath and hair trimming by me. Company is coming and he needs to be spick and spam for the DIL. I hope it all works well with those grandkids and the dog.

  15. So glad your daughter and dad are out of the hospital! that's always a scare for everyone. Chance and Nitty are on the same page except for Nitty it's her left back leg. I have a ramp for her to get in and out of the Tahoe when we go to the vet. She used to go with me everywhere but not any more and I know she misses it. No walks anymore either as she and Annie get too tired too fast. Nitty's legs and Annie's back make them very short walks if at all anymore. But we manage and still enjoy each others company. I can't even think what it will be like without them so I won't or the tears well up in my eyes.
