I have a number of pairs of reading glasses. Most of the time I just grab the pair with the cord that keep them around my neck. I wear cords out… they get dirty/sweaty and I toss them away or the little plastic thingy breaks. Some are way to short, some are too long. Some hurt my neck, some got tangled in my hair. Some held my glasses at a perfect length to catch pieces of food …hard to see anything when one lens has lettuce and dressing on it. Not to mention that you feel stupid when you raise them up to read something and everyone notices the lettuce.
One day I was shopping and saw a perfect cord. Then I got an idea…I could make my own afterall I had many of the supplies. I attempted to make one during the Craft Retreat back in September…I was not strong enough with my bum hand to crimp the beads…besides that my first attempt was way to heavy..it was real pretty but too heavy.
Yesterday I tore it apart and recreated it.
I bought the one in front, it was the inspiration.
I made the tourquoise one and I am working on another in the background, that one is shades of blue.
If you wear reading glasses how do you keep track of them? If you wear them with a cord around your neck when they are not in use…leave me a comment …I may make you one.
Beautiful! I used to wear a cord for my glasses for distance as I was always whipping them off and on but now that I am home I only use them for driving or watching t.v. so most of the day they just sit there. I don't need reading glasses ...yet... but I'm sure the time will come!
ReplyDeleteI keep my reading/crafting glasses on the end tables where I knit and one pair on the bedside table.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was still teaching, I kept the glasses hooked over a brooch a friend gave me. It kept the glasses near and accessible.
I take my glasses OFF to read, being very nearsighted. I'm sure you will find just the right length. I laughed out loud at the picture of lettuce on the reading glasses. :-)
ReplyDeleteDitto here.
DeleteI push them up on top of my hear, they're pretty good about not getting tangled in my hair.
ReplyDeleteThose cords are pretty! I'm so blind I need my glasses on my face at all times.
ReplyDeleteThat time in my life was miserable. I carried them in my shirt pocket and was forever putting them on and off. You know the drill. Working with kids meant much more taking off and on to read their work..
ReplyDeleteI am lucky enough to find reading glasses at the Dollar Tree for #1 each!! I wear bifocals for everyday life but keep a pair of readers at the computer and my bedside table.. I have a few extras for when I just can't find either the bifocals or ???
ReplyDeleteCataract surgery on both eyes changed how I see... had to figure out what worked!! But life is clear and no longer yellowish!!
I put glasses on and off and tend to hang them on my shirt front by tucking the earpiece down the collar and letting them hang at front of my top. A cord is a good idea! Can you purchase the rubber piece that attaches it to the glasses?
ReplyDeleteHi Kay, I will send you a cord:) Yes I buy the rubber pieces:)
DeleteThat would be great! Thank you! I will look forward to it!
DeleteI am an all-the-time- glasses wearer, so they are on my face where I can find them or on my nightstand where I put them when I stop reading, turn out the light and go to sleep.
ReplyDeleteI think your glasses chains are a fun project, though.
I have prescription reading glasses, and they are constantly being taken off and on my face. For me, propping them my head works best. I also just put them down in places and then can't find them. I think I tried a cord once but with them swinging back and forth as I bent over, it was just too aggravating. I get so used to the feeling of them on my head that I forget they are there, and sometimes don't take them off when I should. One year I lost them in the garden, and rototilled them up the next year, after many hours of searching after I lost them. I wasn't even positive that is where they were, but it was my last option after turning the house upside trying to find them. One time they fell off my head onto the driveway, unbeknownst to me, and I ran over them with the car. Last time I got them I got one of the 2 for 1 deals. I was on my second pair and on Friday I had them in my jacket pocket and was leaning over a barrel and I heard the crunch of them breaking in half between me and the barrel. So I spent a long time trying to make one decent pair out of three broken ones, but it wasn't happening. I am typing this with a one armed pair of glasses perched on my nose. Works okay but obviously I can't put them on my head and expect them to stay there, and they tend to tip to one side, so don't think I want to be seen in public ;-) I guess I will have to bite the bullet and go for some new ones. I can use the cheap readers in a pinch, but one eye is a bit different to the other, so there is still a bit of blurring.
ReplyDeleteYour cords are very pretty, I remember buying my mum one like that when she kept loosing her glasses in the bedclothes at the nursing home. Sorry for the novel, but it struck a chord (cord? ;-)) with me when I read your post. And am thinking that maybe I should give a cord another try!
I will make you some and send them off in the mail soon :)
DeleteOh wow! Thank you, but one would be more than enough!
DeleteWhen I needed reading glasses only, I bought the kind that sit down on your nose so I could look up over them at the people I was talking to at the receptionist/PBX position. I said that was the only thing that Gypsy Rose Lee and I would ever have in common - she used that type too. One friend told me to put them up higher so she could see what I looked like! No, they go low on the schnozola!
ReplyDeleteI have a little different setup for my glasses. I have a cord I can wear around my neck, but it has a pretty metal ring on it that dangles like a pendant. When I take my glasses off, I stick one bow into the ring and the glasses can hang with both bows folded. But mostly, when I take them off, I out them on my head, or like Marlu said, low on the schnoz. Hope your hand/wrist/ arm is still improving. I did a chore today that took much longer with my bum wrist.
ReplyDeleteThose cords are so pretty but I'm another who puts her glasses on in the morning and only takes them off in order to put on a different pair which I use to see my PC.
ReplyDeleteI wear glasses all the time so I don't have any problem keeping them handy. However, I am always retrieving my mom's for her and Paul's for him. Maybe I should wear THEIRS on a leash, oops I mean chain. Ha ha. Yours are pretty. The front one looks like Indian corn at first glance.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! Those are pretty, and I've never thought about using a cord. When I am in the sewing room at night, Poppy calls me two or three times and I have to get up and walk into the living room where he is sitting in front of the TV to ask "what"? It never fails, I will lay my sewing glasses down somewhere between the sewing room and the living room and don't realize they are missing until I sit back down at the sewing machine. It makes me so ill then to have to get up AGAIN to look for them! Men!!
ReplyDeleteI used to just fold in the bows of my reading glasses and stick one side down the front of my shirt. Now I wear glasses all the time so they are on my face all day.
ReplyDeleteI have about 10 reading glasses pre-positioned around the house, plus 2 more in my briefcase that I carry to my library volunteering. When I go out without my briefcase - grocery shopping or breakfast, for example - I slip a pair in my shirt pocket. I tried cords, but didn't like them. I bought metal thingys that stick on your shirt by way of magnets on the inside of the shirt and you are to hang your glasses on the outside. They worked fine except I always forgot to take them off before I washed the shirt. After losing 4 of them, I stopped buying replacements. So I just pre-position them around the house.
