I went with my Dad to bingo last night and he got a bingo! As much as he likes the game he gets frustrated when he doesn’t win. My Mother really doesn’t like bingo. If I go then the vehicle is warm by the time I get there and I see that he gets safely in and out and back home again. My Mother gets a few hours to do what ever she wants.
Dad said “When I was a kid about 14 years old ( about 1940) and was at the County Fair I played bingo, three cards were on a piece of cardboard and it cost five cents to play. We used corn to mark the numbers. I used to be pretty lucky and would play a long time….I won cupie dolls and dogs…gave the dolls to the girls and the dogs to little boys…I didn’t keep a thing. I just like the game of bingo.”
Dad’s potatoes in bloom last summer.
I have never thought about potato blooms and was interested in seeing a picture of them. Thanks! I sure had no idea they are purple!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it is fun to be in a big room of bingo players-And it is more fun to win a game. Bet your dad appreciates you being with him!
ReplyDeleteOur five year old grandson won BINGO last week in kindergarten and got a prize. He was thrilled! It was some sort of educational BINGO game.
ReplyDeleteI bet your Dad really appreciated you taking him to play bingo. Happy he won. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour dad is a lucky one, first he has you and then he has bingo to win at. :-)
ReplyDeleteSounds like your last couple days have been fun.
ReplyDeleteWe would call your Dad a bingo fan.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Bingo, but it's been years since I played.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever seen potato blooms. Really pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad he won. I'm with your mom and would be home if I had the choice--LOL! But some people love bingo and can play for hours. :)
Your Dad sure is lucky to have you :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't played bingo in ages, but like your dad, I enjoy the game.
ReplyDeleteI love that memory! It made me smile
ReplyDeleteMy kids loved to play bingo at the county fair because they won things like candy and pop -- which I wouldn't buy for them! So nice you take your dad. I'm with my mom for awhile again in Florida. She does not like bingo!
ReplyDeleteNeat memory about playing bingo way back when! We played at home but not at the fair.
ReplyDeleteI went to play bingo once some years ago in a church basement. I worked at it for several hours and finally won a prize. A small white foam minnow bucket for ice fishing. Thinking I better quit while ahead I've never gone again. Incidently we live in the only county in Minnesota without a lake...:)
ReplyDeleteIt was kind of you to take your dad to bingo. I'll bet your mom appreciated it too!
ReplyDeleteI've never seen potato blooms either. Fun! And what a sweet Bingo story. You're a good daughter.
ReplyDeleteNice that your dad wants to go out to Bingo! Do you know what kind of potatoes the blooms are from? Maybe a red variety?
ReplyDeleteYes I believe from a red potato:)
DeleteI too have fond memories of Bingo as my Aunt used to take my cousin Kay and I to Bingo at the VFW when we were young. Now I don't think children can go as it is considered gambling. I liked the Orange Crush and the popcorn and chips she bought us. How nice for you and your Dad to get out together and your Mom to have a little time to herself....you're a good daughter!
ReplyDeleteI like bingo too, but never go play :-/.
