91 years

My Dad was 91 years old yesterday.

Dad October 9 2017

I had him smile for a photo before we had cake, Mom made a brown sugar spice cake that was gluten free and it was really good.  The dining table behind him is filled with flowers, cards, letters and gifts.

During cake and coffee Dad said “ Your name is on the wall and when the good Lord yanks it down your time is up.”  I asked him what the Lord does with your name then…Dad said “Probably just tosses it away.”   Far Guy thought your name was in the book of life.  I am not sure where your name is….maybe you don’t have a name at all but God calls your soul which has it’s very own name that only God knows.  Someday I guess we will find out.

My Dad is the oldest living person in his family…he has one younger sister that is living the rest of his 12 siblings are dead.   I won’t say “passed on” or “gone to their great reward” they are dead…plain and simple… I pass people on the road…and as for the great reward that could be a sundae at DQ.

I asked Dad how it felt to be 91 and he replied “Not much different than 81.”

  1. Congratulations to your dad! I'm not sure either what happens to our names. Hopefully they live on after us for a few generations in the hearts of our family and friends.

  2. I like your thoughts. I am with the "Guess some day we will find out" group. Mainly, I figure that as long as I am here, there is a reason for me to be here. Your dad must be feeling pretty good if 91 doesn't feel much different than 81.

  5. He's looking good for any age! I envy your long-live genes, since mine go the opposite direction. My dad only made it to 62. I also think your name is not the "handle" we have here, but one we would recognize right away if we were to listen with our soul's ears. :-)

  6. I am not going to "pass away" either. I will die when the time comes!

  10. Happy Birthday to your Dad. My Dad is 81 today and in great shape mentally and physically. His parents lived into their 90's. I hope he will be able to say that 91 feels pretty much like 81. As for passing away, my earthly body will die, but my name is written in the Book of Life and my soul will spend eternity in the presence of the Lord. I am not being prideful but God's word says it is so.

  12. I'm on the blunt side of life, I think. I probably wasn't on the blunt side until a much younger and screaming GN added the spice of saying as it is to my life. Best wishes to your dad!

  15. I agree with you. I don't want to pass, or pass on or pass over or what have you. I guess I'm going to die. But not yet I trust.
You dad looks pretty good for 91. Well done him.

  17. Happy 91st birthday to your dad. He sure looks good for his age. My dad died at 93 but the last years he didn't fare so well at all.

  18. How wonderful that your dad is 91 and still feels as he did at 81! and your mother is still baking his birthday cake, too.
I think our names are remembered by the living, as we live on in their memories.

  22. Happy Birthday to your dad. He looks fine for 91! I worked at a hospital where we were told to say "expired." One of the ministers looked at the roster where it was noted "exp."
He said that magazines expire. Anyway, glad he had a great celebration and that cake does sound delicious!
