First Blush of Fall

Fall has been in the air.  This week we many turn summery again. So far August has been cooler than normal with more rainfall than normal.

sedum autumn Joy

The Sedum ‘Autumn Joy’ has just begun to color.

rose hips

Chance has once again trimmed off the rose hips as far as he can reach.  Silly dog.

Today I am cooking up chicken and then making homemade noodles.  We used the last servings out of the freezer so it is time.   I also have a bunch of Fall Apples for a crisp…so I might be baking too.

  1. Fall is definitely "in the air". Leaves are starting to turn and fall from the trees. Nights and some days are much cooler also. Way too much rain this year. Since Chance likes rose hips I have some I can share with him.

  2. We can smell fall in the air. Tom's sister gave him Northern Spy apples which we will use for applesauce and apple dessert...sliced apples topped with a crumbled mix of butter, flour, and sugar and baked until the apples turn soft enough to prick with a toothpick.

  3. Don't tell me Chance eats those rose hips. Of course, he might be onto something. Love the pretty sedum picture. :-)

  4. Your sedum looks like it will be beautiful. We have too much shade to grow Autumn Joy. It won't stand up tall, but flops over and would make a pretty hanging basket. I'll have to post a picture to show you.

  5. Ah yes, Fall is in the air. A few leaves are turning yellow on my ash trees, and the seeds are falling by the bushel.

  6. I've noticed those colors on the Texas Sage here in Texas. So beautiful. But it is wayyyy to hot for fall yet.

It's hot again today, but the nights are already cooler even when we have warm days. :)

  10. Sounds like a busy day in your kitchen! Despite the wRmth and the sun, the 'feel' of fall is in the air here too.

  11. The sedum is all chewed off by the rabbits. My neighbor shoots them while we are not around and we have no rabbits in sight anymore, nor squirrels. I told him he could not shoot any animalI in our yard. I hope he doesn't take out one of our neighbor children while doing that.

    1. Yes he eats them, they must taste really good. IF he eats too many he gets loose poop :(

  15. I can't wait for fall....it's been a hot, miserable summer here with way too many forest fires.

  16. I am so excited for fall- have already made a camp reservation and am hoping that it won't rain. The weather is perfect right now, but I know we will get that last burst of heat around the middle of Sept. Have a great day!
