On Saturday morning I received a box in the mail. It was from Colorado. A whole box of ornaments now named Cyndi arrived! Five Ice Blue and Five Red.
Cyndi writes:
I Immediately thought of you when I unearthed my Christmas Ornaments and came across a box of Shiny Brites, They aren’t the prettiest…but they have been on my tree every year I’ve had a tree since we bought them for our first Christmas together in 1972. They were purchased at the Rhinebeck Hardware Store in Rhinebeck, NY. The price is still on the box, $1.19! We were married in October but I had to finish student teaching about 300 miles away. I remember finishing the semester and driving home a few days before Christmas. We were giddy about celebrating that Christmas. We went out and purchased a small tree, a stand, some lights and two boxes of Shiny Brites. This is all that remains, with the exception of a few that have lost their tops or have borrowed a top from some other ornament. Enjoy them. I will look for them on the next year’s Shiny Brite tree. Best always, Cyndi
Thank you so much Cyndi! I think they are just perfect! I love when Shiny Brites have a history. I will tuck their history into the box with the ornaments!
Cyndi and her husband are selling their home and many of their possessions because they are “downsizing” and moving.
What a thoughtful gift from Cyndi! I know you will treasure these in your collection of ornaments! All the best to Cyndi.
ReplyDeleteI am sure that was a very welcome surprise. How thoughtful of Cyndi. I wish her and her family the best on their move.
ReplyDeleteA perfect new home for bring appreciated for Cyndi's old Shiny Brites! So thoughtful of her to send them to you.
ReplyDeleteFinding a place for them on the Shiny Brite tree will be a challenge, but what a sweet gift! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely, thoughtful gift! You might have to get a 3rd tree! LOL!
ReplyDeleteIt is great that she could share them with you. Her story jogged my memory of my first Christmas with my late wife and I do now remember buying that red set of shiny brights. She insisted on making bows from a cotton print of gold and red flowers. The balls had to be red. I really had forgotten until her story of 1972 was told. That was the year that I bought them also to go with the theme of the tree. I had to toss the box when we now moved as it had become too solid to keep or give away. My small collection is mostly all in mason jars now. I did move them. In four to five months we can dig them all out again.
ReplyDeleteSolidly soiled with grease from a dirty shelf.
DeleteI love the story. We are decluttering presently - - or downsizing our possessions. They possess us right now - - - have taken over the house. Not planning on downsizing to a smaller house but we have talked about it.
ReplyDeletePerfect gift for you. Nice of Cindi to think of you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful, wonderful perfect gift for you!!!
ReplyDeletePerfect! Now not only you and your famiily can enjoy the Cyndi ornaments, but we can too! Fun thing to get in the middle of summer. One thing on my recent weekend to-do list was to organize my small collection of Shiny Brites, so this was fun to read after just having done that "chore".
ReplyDeleteIt's always nice to know there's someone who will take things when we're downsizing!!! That's a good deal for everybody.
ReplyDeleteI figured the Shiny Brites would end up in a blog post, soon or later. It was so much fun to send you the surprise. I loved doing it, and I know you will appreciate them. How fun that my story brought other's stories to mind.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely surprise for you! I think Cyndi made toe perfect decision about what to do with these ornaments. Whenever I see old ornaments, I want to see if they are Shiny Brites, and I think of you.
