My Fern Leaf Peony had one bloom on it this year. It was a gift from Larry in Iowa several years back.
The regular peonies have not opened yet.
The ants are busy! As far as I know ants are always on peonies.
Peonies always bring up old memories for me;
Bringing in bouquets and having to massacre the ants that escaped to the table top.
A Calico kitten who thought she was a fierce tiger hiding in the jungle of peonies.
The smell of peonies hanging in the air during church on warm humid Sunday mornings….back when ladies brought bouquets to church to decorate the altar.
Oh the petals…as the flowers faded the petals fall off in the slightest breeze.

I have an abscessed tooth, it is very painful and my Dentist is in Mexico on vacation.( Who vacations in Mexico in June anyways?) If it isn’t one thing it is another. I felt “off” and achy all day Sunday and in the nighttime I woke up with throbbing pain that could drive you to drink. For now the pain is controlled with Ibuprofen and I started on an antibiotic….just another bout with old age.
Oh, ouch! I hope the dentist gets back soon. If not, I'd find another.
ReplyDeletePeonies have the best perfume. In fact, I can't think of a better one. Wonder why no one makes people perfume.
Is there another dentist you can consult? Terrible pain with tooth trouble like you are having.
ReplyDeleteLike Shirley, I hope you can find another dentist. The toothacne sounds terrible.
ReplyDeleteOur peonies bloomed early. Traditionally they are blooming here on Memorial Day. This year the first red ones had bloomed and dropped their petals by the 20ieth of May. The white and pink ones were toward the end of their blooming season by the end of May. My mother always brought in the peonies and made a huge bouquet.
ReplyDeleteMy grandma always had peonies, so I have very fond memories of them - especially the ants. So sorry to hear about your tooth. Hope your tooth feels better soon. Can you find another dentist?

ReplyDeletePeonies do not grow here. We have seen them on vacations and what gorgeous flowers. Old age is just filled with lots of time spent on maintenance. Hope your tooth gets fixed soon
DeleteOh no - poor you. I hate toothache!
ReplyDeleteLove your peony shots.
In the rush of building our new house next door years ago I had to leave our peonies behind including my one & only fern...:(
ReplyDeleteBless you. Nothing hurts much worse than an abscessed tooth!
ReplyDeletePeonies seem like an "old" flower to me but all flowers are pretty much old since most have been around since creation. Guess it is because they remind me of my grandmothers. I love those flowers and loved them!!!
You mentioned your peonies are behind mine. You know better than I, that there are different varieties of peonies with different maturity periods. I hope that abscess is looked after quickly.
ReplyDeleteMisery to have a bad tooth! Hope you get it solved soon! I love peonies too! My dad had a huge row of peony bushes at our home. (Hundreds) My sisters and I split them up and I have some at my home, I treasure them! Ours are already done here in KS, where it is in the 90s everyday now (unusual for June).
ReplyDeleteMy Grandmother had peonies. Can't remember if my mother grew them or not. Memory isn't what it used to be--LOL! Hang in there with the tooth.
ReplyDeleteDang! I hope your dentist will refer you to someone who can help relive your pain.
ReplyDeletePeonies are beautiful. I wish the blooms lasted longer. Mine have been gone for a while. Oh how painful and miserable an abscessed tooth can be. I've had more abscessed teeth than anybody I know...every tooth in my head...those that are left have probably been abscessed and had a root canal done. Hope you get something done soon.
ReplyDeleteI love peonies! As for your tooth, oh my is that a horrible pain. One nothing seems to help until the dentist takes care of it. I hope you are able to get something done very soon!
ReplyDeleteSurely your dentist has someone filling in for him in case of emergencies. I don't think I've really suffered with toothache, at least not that I'm remembering right now ;-) Hope you get some proper relief soon.
ReplyDeleteOur red peonies are done, and the pink ones are just about done. No ants on ours here, not that I noticed anyway.
Ab abscessed tooth sounds extremely painful. I hope your dentist gets back soon and deals with it.
ReplyDeleteMy Peonies are at their peak now but with rain in the forecast I don't think they'll last. I have brought in several bunches so far no ants have hitch-hiked along.
Fern leaf peonies are very special. I read something about ants and peonies once, but now I can't remember.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get relief from that tooth soon!
I've worked for dentists for over 20 years....the antibiotic will make you feel much better in 24-48 hours. It might even go away completely, but make sure to keep the appointment you made with the dentist when he returns from vacation. Hey, it could be nothing more than a periodontal abscess, which does not require a root canal.
ReplyDeleteI love peonies....I am waiting for mine to bloom. I hope the heat doesn't kill it before it does!
Oh dear what a pain! I hope you can get it well soon. Peonies are pretty
ReplyDeleteDarned tooth anyway! It was probably just waiting for the dentist to go on vacation. And I also love peonies and learned that ants are necessary for them to open, a true symbiotic relationship. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt was too dry for the peonies in their clay soil. Life was just too much complicated for me to get them watered until it was noticeable that they were dried up. The dust doesn't seem to ever settle around here.
ReplyDeleteI'm catching up with your posts but I better stay on top of them as we never know from one day to the next what 'adventures in aging' I might miss from my blogging friends who are in my age group...the group called OLD! LOL! By the time you read this I am sure you are pain free I hope!
