Photo Project

I have been working on marking and sorting photos.  All winter I found photos here and there and would put them on my desk in a box to be sorted.  I finally made it through the entire box.  Took a photo of the sorted boxes and found a spot for them in the closet from whence they came…it was touch and go because other “stuff” almost took their spots.

I was feeling really good, and then I found a bunch more photos tucked away. I may have said a swear word or maybe even two.  Now they are on my desk …something more to be dealt with in a project I thought was done. Ongoing Projects…was a good word for me and a bad one all rolled into one.

My goal last winter was to get all the odds and ends marked.  Next winter I will attack the photo albums and make sure they are marked properly.   I gave up putting photos in albums about 1994…that was a long time ago.

Boxes of loose photos

I have made very little progress in the digital files…some but not much.  At least the digital files are not taking up space on my desk.

Some photos were scanned, some were shared with my other baby brother as they were duplicates.

Containers of photos

I found many photos that made me smile…so it wasn’t all bad.

  1. That sounds like a "huge" project to me. I have very few photo albums left, gave most of them to my son as they were his anyways. All the photos we take now are digital and on the computer/back-up drive. Funny how I rarely even look at old photos these days. But they sure are a legacy for our children. And it is okay to say a swear word now and then, hahaha

  3. One area of my life that is totally disorganized--LOL! I do wish we would have had easy digital photos and videos growing up, though. Wow! :)

  4. I gave up on photo albums about the same time. Most of my digital photos are organized into folders but labeling the individual photos is nearly impossible.

  5. You amaze me working on so many projects. There is just something about pictures and packs of pictures and albums that drives me crazy. I feel overwhelmed just thinking about it. :)

  6. One of those "oh bad word" moments, right? I learned that phrase from you. But if you found photos that made you smile, then it's worth the effort, right? and they will make others in the family smile too.

  7. Digital files sure do have that one thing going for them: they don't take up shelf space! Glad you got a few smiles out of your task while you were going through all that work.

  8. By the time our parents wee ready to leave this scene very few photos were left. I have an aunt with lots of photos but I don't think I'm going to be the one who gets them.

  9. Tom has been searching for some old photos for an event this Saturday, and finally found them tucked away in the home office closet.
I have so many photo albums in there, and i have thought of scanning a d digitizing many of the photos, but it is too daunting. I finally stopped making albums about five years ago.

  12. As long as you found pictures that made you smile it must be worth all the work.

  14. A daunting project for sure, Connie, as I well know. For the past few years I have been buying newer photo albums at thrift stores with the goal of sorting through my existing photo albums and extra photos. The plan was to condense and put into new books, which I finally did a few weeks ago! i sent extras to family members who were happy to get them (yeah). Another yet to be started project is to go thru the many many images on CD and put these on small and portable external drives.that one will take much longer (sigh).

  15. You are so organized. I've got drawers filled with old photos and can't bring myself to throw any of them away. Sorting through them just makes me tired to think of it. And yes, going through them always gives me a smile or two. :-)

  16. I had told my kids I would make digital files for them after scanning and the scanning takes forever and now it is totally broke (printer). I may look for an individual scanner as I know there are some (QVC) where you can just slip the photo through and it scans and you can just keep feeding it...much faster. I have to do something as I don't want to give up the photos and there are 4 kids! Good for you and thank you for reminding me of this BIG project! LOL!
