The last day of March went out like a lamb. It was sunny and about 50 F.
We spent part of the afternoon watching a dock being installed at my baby brother’s place on the lake. There is still ice on the lake.
We took Chance along and watched from the patio…the former owners even left some patio chairs.
We got home just in time for the Septic Take Pumper Guy to pump out our nineteen year old septic system that needs to be replaced. FUN.
March was not a very productive Month for ongoing projects.
Great Grandson Mikey’s blanket is still in progress. Good thing he is not due to arrive until late May!
The Income Taxes were filed.
Some family tree research happened, nothing too significant. It is a huge time sink.
Some volunteer work was completed at Find A Grave…but there is still more to be done.
I completed a pair of carvings that I will share soon.
And so my ongoing projects are still ongoing.
Pussywillows down near the lake.
What tree or bush produces pussy willows? I have always wondered. Dock building would be interesting to watch! Like bridge building I've always wondered how they build on water. My septic is way older but so far so good. How do you know it needs replacing? The smell? Are you supposed to get them pumped out occasionally? I know nothing and yet had one on the farm too but never had a problem that I was aware of. Did your brother just buy the place? Is he retiring? Are they living there yet? Where does he live now? Curious minds want to know! LOL! Yes, just in the knick of time "out like a lamb"! I remember it did come in like a lion. Dogwoods and red buds are blooming here now and the trees are pretty much all leafed out except for the oaks of which we have the most of. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteSalix species or Willows produce Pussy Willows :)
ReplyDeleteYou should have inspection holes to view your septic system, if you can see water you probably have a problem. We have been pumping ours every two years to clean out the tank and the sledge that settles to the bottom. Our system is 19 years old and they usually only last about eight years.
My brother bought his lake place last Fall. It ajoins lake lots he already owned. No he is not retiring, he wanted a summer place for his kids and grandkids to gather. Most of the time he is in Texas.
Thank you! You are a wealth of information!
DeleteI finished nothing in March, maybe April will be more productive.
ReplyDeletePussy willow are so lovely. I can just feel their softness.

So nice to see the pussywillows. My mother always had a pussywillow bush. Remember the song? I have a little pussy,
ReplyDeleteHer coat was silver gray.
She lives down in the meadow
Not very far away.
She'll always be a pussy,
She'll never be a cat
Because she's a pussywillow.
What do you think of that?
When I saw the guy running with no shirt I thought maybe it was going to be one of those polar plunges ;-D.
ReplyDeleteInteresting what you are saying about the septic system. Ours was redone just before we bought the house. That was 30 years ago, and still working fine. We are probably overdue for a pump out, but certainly haven't noticed any issues. Must be a different type of system?
ReplyDeleteThe dock picture made me chuckle. The guy in the shorts and t-shirt, and the shirtless guy in hip waders booking it up the hill, and then ice in the background. Crazy! Nice looking dock though.
There are all kinds of systems, they are regulated by the State you live in. Our system was called a gravel Less...we put it in ourselves with the help of my Father and Brother. It was a new system back then and thought to be the perfect system.
DeleteI have found ongoing projects are usually quite patient. I have had them wait and not go anywhere for years. LOL!
ReplyDeleteCan't help but wonder why the guy was running topless out in that chilly air. Love the pussy willows! Haven't seen any for so many years. That was a treat.
Enjoy your weekend. :)
Two guys had hip waders on, they were in the water and up and down the hill. The three guys in shorts were working on the dock, no one wore shoes on the dock...they were barefoot or in socks. The hip wader guys ran up and down the hill bringing supplies and going in the water.
DeleteHappy April!
ReplyDeleteDon't look at my blog it will just make you sad because I am
showing off.
Glad you had a lamb- we did too. How far is it for you to go to the lake?
ReplyDeleteThe lake is about 1,000 feet from our property.
DeleteHappy first day of April.
ReplyDeleteI need to go looking for some pussy willows!
It's terribly cold and windy here...but still it is APRIL...I'm hugging myself with joy!
ReplyDeleteThat's a good looking dock. That will provide some summer fun.
ReplyDeletePussy willows here are all bloomed out.I missed them at the fuzzy stage I guess it was raining.
Good spring weather makes up for some of the things that didn't get done.
