Spring is officially here now. On April 4 a Robin came to our window as if to announce her arrival. I did not get a photo.
April 5th we had many Robins in our yard.
First Robins:
April 19 2008, April 11 2009, April 5 2010, April 4 2011, March 23 2012, April 27 2013, April 9 2014, April 24 2015, April 21 2016 and April 5 2017.
Now there may be other sightings in our neighboorhood but I always count the first Robin I get a photograph of.
I love the spring season of “birds” we get so many different birds stopping through our yard. Far Guy filled a bird bath yesterday and I will get the one in the front yard out today.
“She who sees Robins first” saw her first Robin on a trip a few weeks ago, and I am certain they have been in her yard for days.

ReplyDeleteA single robin showed up about 2 months ago. Then it was gone for a while. It returned 4 weeks ago today. Our dog had died early that morning. The robin was there when we returned from dropping him off at our vet.
ReplyDeleteThen it was gone again, but back again this week.
I live in Thunder Bay, so it was *not* warm when it first showed up.
I wondered about 'she who sees robins first'....I'm sure those are the ones that were down here a few weeks ago.....they just pass through here and I miss them as I always loved robins!

ReplyDeleteThe robins are in my neighborhood, too. For me the harbinger of spring is a Meadowlark song on the air.

ReplyDeleteBIRD MIGRATION IS A GREAT TIME TO WATCH CAREFULLY. lOTS OF LITTLE CRITTERS PASS THROUGH VERY QUIETLY. nOW i DON'T COUNT THE FIRST ROBIN OF THE SEASON ANYMORE. i'VE SEEN ROBINS IN EVERY MOTH OF THE YEAR.

Spring for us has been here for a few weeks now with lots and lots of rain so far but these April showers will soon bring my May flowers so I am ok with that . ReplyDeleteSometimes I think we have robins most of the winter, but this year I noticed them NOT here. Our first one appeared weeks ago, but I really notice them singing in the evening, depending on the weather. Probably will hear them this evening. It is finally clearing up after raining most of today and yesterday.

ReplyDeleteThis has seemed to be one of the longest Winters ever for me.
I always smile when I hear about your "first robin". They really are a sign of spring in northern places. Here we have then year round so we don't get that thrill. They do start singing in the spring, though, after being quiet in winter, and I have been enjoying bird song.
ReplyDeleteOther than that March 23rd date, looks like Spring was on the early side this year. Glad to have made it through another winter!
ReplyDeleteNow that I have moved further south I bet you think I am living among the plantations. Robins were back quite a while ago in Woodward.
