Dentist and Bowel Prep

The visit to the Dentist was just fine, look Ma no cavities!   I hate going to the Dentist but at my age teeth are important.  Far Guy went too, he suffers after teeth cleaning as it usually kicks up the pain of his Trigeminal Neuralgia.

Far Guy failed his bowel prep prior to a colonoscopy.  He has a history of polyps…last year the surgeon called him a polyp farm.  The Gatorade was mixed with a huge quantity of a powdered laxative in the morning and chilled.  In the afternoon he began to drink and drink, he became nauseated, said his stomach felt like it was on fire and began to walk inside the house…round and round……and then he began to puke and puke and puke…did he poop no…I cancelled his procedure at 10 PM it was scheduled for 6:30 AM Wednesday, it was quite obvious that his bowels would not be clear for the procedure.  Results came through yesterday as he made many trips to the bathroom…too little too late.  He will be rescheduled with a different bowel prep.  Even the mention of Gatorade makes him gag and he says that he won’t go down that aisle in the grocery store anytime soon.
Yesterday I insisted he eat some yogurt to put something good back into his stomach and he still has a sore stomach…some chicken and homemade noodles made him feel a bit better at supper.

He was disappointed, he wanted to get it over with…but it was just not meant to be.

  2. You got that same spam, I see. I have reported it as spam and removed it three times already. So sorry to hear about the awful l bowel prep, but glad to hear the dentist doesn't get to do anything more in your mouth. :-)

  3. Oh, so sorry for Far Guy. I had one of those once and they gave me something that started with a "D" and I think I drank it with 7 up? I can't remember but Gatorade would make me sick too! After I got to the hospital they said I still needed to drink another gallon....I am a sipper....I cannot gulp anything fast unless I am really dehydrated. I finally got it done but it was the medicine some crazy doctor gave me that caused me to have to have the procedure to begin with. I feel pretty safe and will probably never have another one done. Good for you with no cavities!

  4. Well, that is quite a spam you have here!
And what a horror for Far Guy, and then to have to go through it all over again. Ugh. Congrats on no cavities! That's always good news you want to hear.

  5. By the way when you have to drink that stuff and the taste is too much use a big fat straw and aim it at the back of your mouth so you don't taste it - easier to get it down that way - someone told me this trick.

  6. Sounds like he had the prep my cousin did. Same reactions and had to cancel.
I had one in Nov. Had Peglyte. It comes in a large jug, just add water. It's fruit flavoured.
Can't say I enjoyed the prep, like not at all.
    But...it doesn't make you vomit.
    He should ask about it.

  7. Crystal Lite was the liquid of choice back when I was having colonoscopies. I would feel awful the day before and for a week afterward, didn't vomit but felt like I was about to. Then my daughter told me SHE was allergic to Crystal Lite. Wonder if it is any of those artifical liquids made with chemicals that can cause vomitting.

  8. How sad for Far-Guy, The Bennie has gone through this many times.
When he hit his 80th birthday he announced no more colonoscopies.
Sorry Far - Guy has to far to go yet. It is a must when you or as young
    a he is.

  9. Oh, I am so sorry about that experience for Far Guy. Had my colonoscopy recently and that stuff you have to drink is just horrid! That is by far the worst part.

  10. Sorry he has to do it all over again...no fun, for sure. I'm going to remember the comment suggesting the large straw. Sounds like a good idea when you can't tolerate the taste.

  12. I would think they could come up with a different bowel prep. You know the old saying, 'they can put a man on the moon' yet the bowel prep for a colonoscopy is sheer torture. Not that I have ever had a colonoscopy but I have given plenty of bowel preps!!

  13. Glad you got th all clear at the dentist, but so sorry for FarGuy! That sucks!! I hope they give him something that works better next time. Bleh! I don't blame him for wanting to get it over with. All that for nothing. :( Poor guy!

  14. That's a miserable prep and throwing up makes it that much worse. someday they have to design something that doesn't require such a miserable prep. The prep is just too harsh for elderly seniors.

  15. Guess it could have been the prep from the sounds of how it hit his stomach. It would be too coincidental for a virus to have happened at the same time.
You could also have entitled this, "From one end to the other!"

  17. Congrats on your dental checkup! It's always a relief when they say everything looks good.
So sorry for the botched colonoscopy. I need to schedule one, and now I am really NOT looking forward to it. I hope the next try is a vast improvement.

  18. I feel pretty excited when I don't have to go back to the dentist until my next checkup! Poor FarGuy, that sounds awful. Hope he has better luck the next time, but I'm sure he will be worrying about it. I've had two colonoscopies and have never found the prep that big of a deal. Just lucky maybe.

  19. Oh gosh, I hate that time coming around again. My doctor named me the polyps queen and suggested I have a colonoscopy every year. Thankfully, that didn't last long. My youngest brother died of color cancer at age 49. I can't walk past the ginger ale any more. :)
