Leaves and more leaves. We had gale force winds yesterday and many of our trees are now bare. The wind was from the North West and it had a real cold feel to it.
The vines that crawl up the trees are turning red. It is a Virginia Creeper type vine.
Here is my flower bed, the leaf catcher that it is. I was dissappointed with the flowers this year, my large yellow Marigolds were always shredded by the squirrels and my Salvia Victoria Blue never flourished. The small Marigolds did okay. The red Salvia looks great this time of year…but soon a frost will take it out.
Small garden on October 4th.
We made homemade noodles for chicken and noodles, Far Guy got a lesson…I believe he could make it all by himself now. The freezer was cleaned out. We were going to make chili and freeze it up also but I have had other commitments that have been taking up some of my time. Perhaps next week.
We had a few Juncos show up in our yard yesterday…snow birds.
Your yard looks a lot like mine with all the leaves. We have had the wind but it doesn't feel that cold yet. We have rain almost every day. Sure hope it isn't a sign of things to come.
ReplyDeleteBrrr! That does look cold. I am now on Vashon Island for the writers' retreat and it's glorious weather. Plenty of rain in the future, though. Like tomorrow. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the new header. Looks like you got a nice bouquet of flowers.
ReplyDeleteWe are still fairly green here, at least down here in the valley, lots of colour up in the mountains. Saw reports of snow out on the prairies- Saskatchewan and Alberta- no thanks!
Mmmm, homemade noodles!
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy! Sorry about your flowers this year. Better luck next year!
ReplyDeleteCould have frost the next two nights. It's like Mother Nature skipped a month and jumped right on ahead toward winter. Feels like November weather.
ReplyDeleteHomemade noodles! Pretty awesome that FarGuy can probably do them himself now, too. Sounds delicious. You'll have to put him to the test this winter. ;)
WOW! I cannot believe the trees are already bear. Ours haven't even started to change color yet! I have never tried to make homemade noodles.
ReplyDeleteThe winter birds are back here also. I saw several skeins of geese and sandhill cranes in the air. Winter isn't far behind now.
ReplyDeleteLinda
We call the snow bunting the snow bird. they winter here in large flocks and feed in open weedy fields. When they fly up as one large flock they look like snow ...so snow birds. I don't know if these birds winter in your area.
ReplyDeleteI loved the grey-blue tree branches, with the interspersed red Virginia creeper. Wish I could paint! That would make a beautiful picture.
ReplyDeleteThat wind from the NW would have been a tiny preview of winter, perhaps? The weather can change so fast. Yesterday it was almost hot around here but overnight clouds moved in and rain, at times heavy.
ReplyDeleteAlthough we have some Juncos all year round I've noticed more are coming from the North now and will stick around until next Spring.
Love your new header!
ReplyDeleteI'm so slack. I've been meaning to write for days to say how much I like the sprightly new pic of Chance on your page.
ReplyDeleteThose vines sure turn a brilliant scarlet!
ReplyDeleteHomemade noodles are such a treat. I can still see my mom cutting them after stacking all the layers of dough. Flour was always flying everywhere.
ReplyDeleteYou're making me hungry! I have not tried making homemade noodles but it sounds like something I should do. I usually buy the frozen Reeses noodles. Your garden looks lovely and Montana had a snowstorm so get ready!
