Eagles

When we went for our ride last night there was a lot of wildlife activity.

A young whitetail buck was hit by a car and died near one of the ponds that the rain made in a local field.  There was a bunch of bald eagles there young and old…eight was the most I could count.  Visiting them was a turkey vulture.

Immature Eagles

Three immature eagles.

We continued on our rounds, we saw four wild turkeys and about thirty deer give or take one or two.

Just before dark we went back to the pond in the mustard field.Eagles at sunset

Food must be scarce to see this many eagles in one area.

  2. Maybe not as many deer are being hit by cars this year. The eagles know a good thing when they see it. Easy pickin's. Get it while it is fresh. ;)

  10. The way the world works: one critter dies and feeds dozens more. We see eagles here all the time, but they never stop seeing magnificent. :-)

  11. Eagles are often seen around here and a few times, around this time of the year, we've seen large flocks (?) of them out in the country. * Is a large number of eagles called something special? Like a congregation of eagles or something similar?

  12. How exciting to see so many eagles at once! It's almost like along the Mississippi in winter when they congregate where the food is.

  14. I think it is migration time for the eagles. Very cool to see them up close and personal.

  15. I always enjoy seeing the eagles, unless they are threatening our chickens! A few years ago when they were clearing out some chicken barns, and there must have been a lot of dead chickens? (we are just guessing) there were what seemed like hundreds of eagles sitting in the trees. It was amazing to see.

  16. Looks like the eagles were enjoying their fresh venison. Here we mostly see eagles around bodies of water, fishing or picking off ducks.
