This and That

It rained most of yesterday, and when it quit raining it was too wet to mow the lawn.  I will be makin’ hay soon if the rain doesn’t quit.

Sandhill Crane Family

A Sandhill Crane Family, the young one is in the middle.

I got out some of my woodcarvings that were finished except for the painting and the final finish.

Carvings

I have a shop that wants to take them on consignment…I am not certain I want to do that.

We have begun carving on our Christmas Ornament for this year.  Far Guy is working really hard on them.  I believe all the pieces are cut out and it just remains to carve them. On nice afternoons we will be carving outside on the patio.

Far Guy’s port is sluggish again ( small fibers can grow over the end of the catheter or a blood clot can form.) We use two saline flushes and a syringe of heparin after each infusion to avoid catheter problems.  So we are taking care of it properly.  We time the infusions and have gone from 14 minutes just after this port was “installed” to 26 minutes  …not a good sign. This week try as we might there was no blood return. ( Arms up, arms down, turning his head , coughing, almost standing on his head.) We have some supplies to start doing regular IV’s….with help from our daughter or niece Stacey or trips to the ER.  We are both discouraged.  Not sure why some people have ports for years without a problem and we cannot get one to work for longer than five months.  We see one of the specialists next week maybe he will have an answer.  Two ports in one year is ridiculous.

I made some banana bread.  I don’t make it often but I had some bananas that were prime.  Chance loves it.  He can be bribed to go out and potty even if it is thundering.  He is really funny, I said “Chance if you go out and potty now when you come back in I will give you banana bread.”  He runs to the door, goes out and does his thing and then heads for the kitchen. Silly dog in his old age can still be bribed.

  3. I'm hoping those doctors will find some way to help FG. This is simply awful, and I only have to read about it. Chance is an amazing dog!

  8. So sorry to hear about your troubles with the port; I really hope someone can find a solution. And isn't it frustrating when the rain keeps coming and the grass keeps growing ... and then it's too wet to cut? And now you have me thinking about banana bread! One of the all-time greatest smells in the world.

  9. I did get some mowing done today even though the dew was a little heavy. Started trimming back trees afterwards. I guess I have never known that cranes were in Minnesota but it makes sense that they migrate through Nebraska to go somewhere north.

  10. Some Minnesota sandhill cranes are the Texas/NewMexico/Arizona cranes and some are Florida cranes. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/livingwith_wildlife/sandhill_cranes/index.html

  11. I'm sorry to read about FG's port problems. I hope this can get worked out. Despite that, I like the rhythm of your life when it comes time to start your carvings.

  12. That Chance is one smart dog. I wonder how often you had to use Banana Bread as a bribe before he recognized the words.
Sorry about the medical problems your husband is having. I hope next week's appointment will provide some answers.

  13. I love that Chance understands "banana bread". So fun.
What is not fun is your concern over FG's port issues. I hope there is a simple fix.

  14. Thank you for identifying the sandhill cranes. We saw some in a farm field in central Minnesota while driving north and I didn't know what they were. I hope there is a solution soon to the port problem.

  15. He's so smart! He can have mine....I'm not a big banana fan.
I hope you get the port issue solved. Maybe you should try calling "The Port Authority".....get it...ort authority? LOL!
