On the road

I like to take photos out the windshield when Far Guy is driving…sometimes I roll down my window and shove my camera out for a photo.

Donorcycles

We call these donorcycles because no one is wearing a helmet.  Sometime idiots just take themselves out of the gene pool.  Yes some people still make ditch hay.

Horse

This lady was going to put up her sign for the day.  We never go by at the right time of day to stop…I know she sells rugs because they hang out on a clothsline.

This barn and out building have been along Highway 2 for who knows how long.  The highway probably went right through their farm when it was built.

Prairie sky

The road up on the prairie…we were headed home.

It was raining here yesterday…so far we have about 5 and 3/4 inches of rain in the past few days…we are wet.  A tree went down but it fell toward the woods!  Wind and rain continue to be in our forecast.  Someone should turn the spigot off.

  1. 5 and 3/4" of rain, that is about what we could use right about now.

  2. Hope you are all well after last nights storms. We live in a small town east of St. Cloud and got lots of rain. Water in the basement and standing water but otherwise o.k. here. Ranee

  3. Thanks for taking us along on your road trip. I like that you call them donor cycles; one of my neighbors belongs to that club - idiot. We haven't had that much rain but the humidity level is extremely high. It makes it very difficult to breathe when I go outside. Looking forward to dryer weather.

  4. It will be hot and humid when the sun returns. Our weather cleared out yesterday and blue skies today so hopefully it is on the way. We didn't get THAT much rain but the firefighters were truly happy to see what we did get.

  5. I love your pictures as it's like a little piece of home. I love those handmade rugs...they last for years! I've got some I bought 20 years ago or more. Have a great day....glad you got home safe and sound.

  6. I enjoyed the pictures you got on this drive! That's a lot of rain! It is still pretty wet and soggy here. Seems like there has been more rain than usual in a lot of places this year.

  7. Wow - that's a lot of rain! My sister used to work in the local hospital in Rapid City, SD and when the Sturgis motorcycle rally was underway, they used to get lots of motorcycle accident victims. She and her coworkers used to call the bikers "organ donors."

  8. SEND US THE RAIN, PLEASE!!! Our weather comes out of Arizona and the Gulf of Mexico this time of year...we are parched.

I enjoyed your road trip...your world is so interesting.

  9. Donorcycles! I'd never heard that before but it is quite appropriate--LOL! Not that I should be laughing, but...well...Darwin's Law and all that. Life is dangerous enough without asking for trouble.

Yes, they have the possibility of rain every day till next week, I think--or as far as their guesswork goes. At the moment it is not raining and I was able to put out some food for the critters for the first time in days, so they are happy. And Miss Karma is happily glued to the patio door. Have a great week, Connie! :)

  10. Interesting how your motorcycle drivers have an option about using helmets. You're right that they take themselves out of the gene pool. 5 3/4 in of rain is definitely too much

  11. Donor cycles is a good name for them. So irresponsible. They should at least think of the ones who love them when they are out being stupid. I'm looking forward to enjoying a little Minnesota summer next week!

  12. I love the way the lady gets from her house to the sign she wants to put up! That's awesome. I have to cringe when I see helmet-less bikers. (FYI: The halibut recipe I made came from Sunday's episode of Minnesota Bound with Ron Schara. His daughter showed it, but the written recipe isn't on his website yet.)

  13. Your system for taking pictures works nicely! Thanks for the tour and the wonderful comments. Donorcycles indeed.

  14. I love the picture with the woman in her horse drawn buggy. Would she by any chance be Amish? I'd love to see her rugs.

  15. You have Amish in your area! I love their farms.
Feast or famine. When it rains it pours. I guess this is better than having everything burn up.

  16. I enjoy taking pictures out of the window also when we are traveling ~ and when I am driving sometimes I just have to pull over or even turn around to get that "special" picture. Even if I am the only one that thinks it is "special".

  17. That is a LOT of rain. We get lots of it, but nothing like that. I smiled at the appropriate name of "donorcycle." :-)

  18. I did not know anyone ever made ditch hay. I wish more did. What a waste to just keep mowing and mowing and mowing.

  19. I love that barn. When we were in Alberta, farmers and ranchers would get permits to cut ditch hay. I sure wouldn't feed it to horses, due to all the "extras" to be found in ditches and the residue from road salt.

  20. There are a lot of Amish that now live in the southern Iowa area. They would drive their buggy to highway corners and spend their days selling wonderful baskets and breads.
