I might be the last of the big spenders. We attended an Estate Sale at Hazel’s old house.
I bought some Hazel’s to add to my Shiny Brite collection. 5 cents each
Two Shiny Brites.
One ornament marked West Germany.
It was a fun estate sale I got to visit with an old friend and met her husband.
These are a few of Hazel’s hankies that came home with me. The two on the right still have their old labels and were made in Switzerland. 5 cents each and I bought four.
I did buy some other stuff…but they are gifts for other people so they don’t count.
I knew Hazel from the time they moved to Ponsford in the early 1950’s. Ernie used to work for the County and Hazel worked at Ringer in town, they had three children and the middle child Janet and I were good friends. She was a year younger than me. We rode the same bus driven by Ivan until the route changed. We went to the same church and were also in the same Confirmation Class. I liked to visit on the nights that Hazel served flat bread and broasted chicken…she was a really good cook. Hazel died this past winter she was 87 years old, I was unable to attend her funeral. It is hard to be in two places at the same time and sometimes you have to take care of those closest to you.
Oh my, 5 cents each for the Shiny Brites! What a bargain! I used to have some fancy handkerchiefs but they got lost along the way with many moves. Pity! They were lovely. The day of the handkerchief is long over. Paper tissues have taken their place.

Maybe for some but not for me.:). I have post nasal drip and keep a hankie in my pocket all the time. Of course for a real cold I use tissues. Those handkerchiefs are beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLittle treasures!
ReplyDeleteYes, we need to tend our loved ones first and foremost. ;)
She sounds like a lovely woman.
Sweet memories and what great treasures! I love the shiny brights...and look for them whenever I get a chance. I think you got a steal on the hankies, too. They are precious.
ReplyDeleteWhat darling hankies, I know you will treasure them as they remind you of Hazel, and the ornaments each Christmas will also call her to mind.
ReplyDeleteHazel knew you were there in your heart.
ReplyDeleteGreat treasures with memories attached...the best kind.
Sure you didn't pay too much?
ReplyDeleteFabulous bargains and purchases! I love and USE old hankies. If I'd been there, I would have purchased the whole box of hankies.
ReplyDeleteYou jogged my memory that I have hankies upstairs in a box somewhere. Mom loved them and kept one in her purse always. A nickle a piece is pretty exciting. Those who were selling them just wanted them to go away. They will be well taken care of for sure.
ReplyDeleteHa, my kind of prices! I love old linens, and would have had a hard time passing them up.
ReplyDeleteWe went to several consignment stores today. Nothing looking as pretty as a Shiny Brite.
ReplyDeleteI would like to go to estate sales, but hubby would not and I won't go by myself.
Congratulations on your purchases. You need to save money wherever you can now days.
It's sad that in the end the person's possessions are just disposed of. Maybe I'm just thinking about my own end.
ReplyDeleteNever look beyond a good bargain these days I say ! Things now cost a fortune .
ReplyDeleteGreat finds, made more meaningful because they were Hazel's.
ReplyDeleteWow! What bargains! Lucky you.
ReplyDeleteYou shop well! And one from Germany, to boot!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have been there to buy some of those beautiful hankies. They were practically giving them away. And two more Shiny Brites for your collection! Wonderful. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou got some lovely things for ridiculously cheap. Esp. those Shiny Brites!!
ReplyDeleteAhhh how nice to have gotten a few treasures and so cheaply too!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful hand work. I'm totally hooked on Shiny Brites thanks to you ;-D.
