The Pin Cherries are blooming. The birds love the berries.
We had an orange sunset one day this past week. There is smoke in the atmosphere from fires.
Some of the early Popples are budding out. You can see them in the hills.
We have two different species of Popple (Aspen) one buds out before the other.
We had summer for two days, then late yesterday the wind switched to the north and it cooled off. The wind seems to blow everyday, I don’t remember the wind being so persistant years ago.
The ticks are out: me 0, Far Guy 3 and Chance 4.
We are having Internet troubles so if I am not around for a day or two …don’t panic!
Oh yeah, ticks. My least favorite part of summer. (shudder)
ReplyDeletethe black flies are flying here
ReplyDeleteYes, maybe a tick race will make acquiring them a bit less scary.
ReplyDeleteProblem is, as I understand it, the really bad ones are so tiny that they're almost impossible to find. Especially if, like me, you are the queen of freckles and age spots.
Local we have 3 different Poplars: the Western Balsam is in full leaf with many catkins (she's a female), 2 Lombardy Poplars (probably males) in full leaf but no catkins, and 3 Black Poplars (again likely to be males) with hardly any leaves at all, and what they have are tiny, and no catkins. I hope these guys will be OK. They are great big trees looking all but dead.
ReplyDeleteIn contrast all our English Oaks are in full leaf and looking fabulous.
Are you getting smoke from the Canadian fire or your own?
ReplyDeleteBoth
DeleteNo ticks for me, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLots of smoke from the Canadian fires settled in here yesterday. Visibility was very limited.
I never knew that Aspens were also called Popples. Thanks for teaching this old girl something new!
ReplyDeleteWhat pretty blooms on the pin cherry and thank you for telling me that Popples are Aspen or I would have been pestering you! LOL! I've had about 4 ticks so far but just babies....no big ones! Whew! The big ones throw me into a tizzie!
ReplyDeleteWe need some rain! I am so glad it cooled back down, though. Ninety degrees the beginning of May was just ridiculous. It's always windy to some degree in Fargo. When I first moved to Fargo-Moorhead it kind of freaked me out that the air is never still here. Now if it was totally still it would freak me out. :)
ReplyDeletePretty sunset. We had smoke blow through this morning, quite a bit actually. Still cold at night. Must be a big job checking Chance for ticks! Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteIf we have ticks, I have never encountered them. Mosquitoes are bad enough.
ReplyDeleteTha fire in Alberta is horrific. The only good thing about it is the pretty sunsets the smoke creates.
When poplars leaf out it's a very delicate green and fresh smell.
ReplyDeleteThe wildfire situation is dreadful. So many people affected in many ways.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy Mother's Day!!
No ticks here, at least I haven't found any. Not enough brush for them I guess. Sure is a huge difference in climate from your place to here- I think the farmers are going to get an early hay crop. The blossoms on the fruit trees are all done now.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous shots! Love that orange sunset... The deer ticks are out here. This year I've given the dogs a new pill that should last for nearly 12 weeks.
ReplyDeleteHope your Internet simmers down--and those fires, too! Strange to think of fires on this end of the year, with everything so soggy from the rains. Hope the wind cooperates, too--not helpful when fighting fires :(
ReplyDeleteHope you have a lovely Mother's Day!
I detest ticks!
