We are supposed to get some much needed rain this week. It is very dry and our Fire Danger is Very High according to Smokey Bear in Park Rapids.
There was a fire at the edge of town last week that was quickly put out…the water bombers and flame retardant dumping planes and helicopters assisted.
Luckily a Minnesota Incident Command Team had just finished up at a fire near Staples when the Lake Hattie fire broke out. They set up at the Lake George Fire Hall. Lake George’s Fire Trucks were parked outside to enable the use of the Fire Hall for a command center.
See that Semi Trailer? It is full of food and supplies.
Smoke from the fires hung heavy in the air. On Saturday we drove out of it and into sunshine and blue skies…Sunday there was no relief from the smoke.
On Sunday as we neared home, our Smoky Hills were indeed smoky. What wasn’t smoky was dusty from the field work.
My eye balls are doing their usual spring itch, eye drops help.
rain can be a blessing
ReplyDeleteI'll be happy to send you some of our rain. Seems it has been raining at least twice a week since April 1st. We are expecting rain at least 3 times this week. :(
ReplyDeletePraying for the fires to die down every where. So much destruction. Hope you stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI am hoping for plenty of rain for you and the entire Alberta province as well. It does look smoky and that would bother my eyes and sinuses, for sure.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you've heard about the Fort McMurray fire, which have been raging in Canada. It seems to be the way things are going this spring. Such devastation and loss! A timely topic, Far Side.
ReplyDeleteFires are such a worry! ANd a very horrid thing to occur. I hope you get rain soon!

It does look smokey in that photo. Take care. We've had some rain on the burnt land across the street, so I'm hoping the smoke smell goes away. My car still smells. Makes me wonder how many goslings didn't make it out of there in time.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for a downpour, but we did get some rain yesterday. Hopefully a little more today maybe. Hope you got rain and your eyes feel better. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe there are already fires happening - it's so early in the season! I really feel bad for the folks up in Alberta. That fire sounds horrible.
ReplyDeleteIt seems awfully early for the Fire Season to begin. I'm hoping for smoke-free skies this summer.
ReplyDeleteFires are so scary. I have worried so much about the people up in Canada. I enjoyed your last post too. Paige is such a pretty girl. Love the picture of Jen and Paige.
ReplyDeletePraying for the rain, so many Forrest fires.... Very bad ones here in Canada, much needed rain.Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteAll of these fires are scary! We haven't had any close to us for a few years, Thank God!! Does Benadryl help with your itchy eyes? That is what I use!
ReplyDeleteOne Benadryl and I sleep for 24 or more hours:(
Deleteit's a risky situation. We need rain. we are very dry. I'll tell you when rain is coming your way!
ReplyDeleteI may have asked you before but do you ever use Erythromycin Eye Antibiotic? My ophthalmologist keeps a refillable prescription for me to use as needed during these seasons. It really helps.
ReplyDeleteI use alcaftadine ophthalmic solution it works real well as long as I use it daily in the spring. :)
DeleteHope you get lots of rain soon so no more fires start .
ReplyDeleteThe fires in BC and Alberta are terrible already this year. Hope your smoke clears soon, not much fun breathing that stuff in.

ReplyDeleteGood thing that fire was put out quickly. Everything being so dry this year
ReplyDelete(well, for some areas anyway). I hope you get a nice rain to wash away the smoke and settle the dust.
Spring fires are a rarity here, but we did have one yesterday that was quickly extinguished. After record rainfall in January through April, it is now uncharacteristically dry. Weird weather now seems to be the norm. Sure hope you get rain soon.
ReplyDeleteFire is one thing that scares me for sure. My daughter in Iowa said they had smoke from the Canada fire which was so terrible. It was the news that stated it but now I wonder if it wasn't from Minnesota? I hope you get rain soon!
ReplyDeleteStay safe!
We are having the same problem here, not much snow this winter. Thank goodness we are finally getting a bit of rain this week but we still need more.
