Does anyone Spring Clean anymore? I mean the really old fashioned spring clean, where everything is removed out of every nook and cranny in a room?
I finally finished spring cleaning the bathroom downstairs, I think I must have skipped last year…maybe even two years…shame on me. Drawers were emptied out…new drawer liner was put in and everything put back in it’s proper place. I should be able to find everything. Expired medications were dropped off at the Sheriff’s Office for disposal.
A new bath rug was purchased and I may purchase another since it feels so good on our feet. I did everything except deep clean the grout in the tile floor.
Not sure what room should be next? Maybe the dining room, it has only one small drawer and a few bookshelves. Easily done in an afternoon if a peron puts her mind to it and isn’t distracted by a warm spring day or a bead project or day trips looking for more junk.
Oh yes, I still do spring cleaning. I tackle one room at a time, just like you. Thankfully, we had vinyl flooring installed throughout our home: no more tile grout or hardwood floors to deal with. It will be time to clean the windows when the pollen settles down.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think spring cleaning is necessary anymore, because most of us clean with modern machinery such as vacuum cleaners, and do this every week probably. Dust and dirt don't get a chance to accumulate!

Oh that is what I need to do, and plan to do. But I pick a room then stand and stare at it until I decide to do something else. It's more fun to bring home more junk.
ReplyDeleteMy mom remembers my grandma taking everything out of the house, room by room, and washing it. Can't imagine!
ReplyDeleteI try to do a room at a time like you. Hm, I'd better get started because it's almost summer here.
I get an urge to purge and clean up in the spring. Since we are on the motorhome, that urge gets pent up and the minute I get home I go into a whirlwind of sorting and organizing and cleaning... for about 4 days. Then I'm done!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on sticking to it!!
We spring clean but don't move much furniture.
ReplyDeleteI spring clean, it's just that it takes me all year to do it.
ReplyDeleteI do!

I have never done spring cleaning the old fashioned way. BUT this is a new year and I am renting a dumpster, and house here I come! I am getting rid of things and cleaning from top to bottom. I have forewarned the family if they want things kept they better hide them! So, you are way ahead of me. Good luck with the cleaning.
ReplyDeleteI'm a spring cleaner! If it can't go outside, it at least gets moved for dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, etc. But, I am easily distracted by knitting, reading, or knitting and reading at the lake! In fact, I'm heading out the door to be distracted!
ReplyDeleteInstead of spring cleaning, I've decided to get a new rig...can't get any cleaner than brand new! ;)
ReplyDeleteMy mother was not a spring cleaner--or any kind of regular cleaner. I should learn how to spring clean, but until I moved up to the Fargo-Moorhead area in 1999 I had moved over 30 times in 31 years...so I never had to. I was always purging, cleaning, and moving. But now I have only moved twice since 1999! Staying in one place changes everything--LOL! I'm finding I tend to only purge and go through everything I own about every 3-5 years. But I do pick areas to randomly deep clean and reorganize in the meantime, though.
ReplyDeleteI don't do a full house spring cleaning but I do clean specific areas that tend to not get cleaned regularly. Around April 1 and November 1 I pull the fridge and stove out and clean behind them. It always amazes me how much stuff gets underneath and behind.
ReplyDeleteToday I tackled the laundry room (while I was waiting for the floor in the furnace room to dry so I could move the cat litter boxes back). It's been awhile obviously. I took out a bag of items to be donated and took away a number of items that had ended up there for no apparent reason. Why would I have needed a hammer in the laundry room? After wiping everything down and washing the floor the room looks great.
There is something to be said for spring cleaning. Everything feels fresh and uncluttered. Now if there was only a clearing fairy who would take care of it for me!
I would spring clean if I had a housekeeper to do it for me. :-)
ReplyDeleteI was so interested in the various comments and approaches! A common thread seems to be a great desire to clean, and a great number of distractions! I am somewhere in between...
ReplyDeleteTell me about the distractions! 2 dogs and 2 cats are like having toddlers running around again. No, I don't Spring Clean like that....I wish I did...I want to but every time I turn around there's something else to do. And I tire so easily it seems. Sitting down every 15 minutes. Today was gas for mower, blueberries and wasp spray at the store and then visited with a neighbor and then making homemade dog treats. That was it for today....oh, and blog which I am going to do right now! Bye!
ReplyDeleteI prefer to do Spring cleaning when I can actually open the windows and let the fresh air circulate in the house. That's not going to happen any time soon. Brrrr!
ReplyDeleteWe had to take the springs and mattress outside and beat it with a broom and allow it to "air". I don't miss that at all.
ReplyDeleteI like organizing and tidying up but not so much actual cleaning. I do it but it's not fun like organizing is. I do find that a coat of paint does wonders!
ReplyDeleteMy mind thinks it likes to Spring clean, but it seems to have a hard time communicating that to my body, haha! I did go through all the kitchen cupboards though and sorted and cleaned and got rid of....stuff.
ReplyDeleteBookshelves in your dining room? You sound like me :)
ReplyDeleteI need to get busy and do some deep spring cleaning. But I have so many projects that need done! Sigh!!
ReplyDeleteI did some of the same yesterday - but not to the extent that you did - I just tossed stuff, more stuff that is. I'm impressed with your new drawer liners and all. Wowsa! You go girl!
ReplyDeleteI don't spring clean, but we did discover an emergency situation that required "cleaning" today. I'll have to post about it.
ReplyDeleteCleaning seems to be an ongoing task that I can't seem to stay ahead of. I remember a janitor we had in school a few years back who said he wasn't going to clean it because the kids would just get it dirty again. We need to do spring painting.
ReplyDeleteWe actually do our household cleaning just before the new year.
ReplyDeleteI clean...sometimes it's in the spring...lets just leave it at that as I'm behind too.
