I love the Mallard Ducks and the way their iridescent feathers glow in the sunlight.
We went to our first garage sale of the season last Saturday…walked away with…nothing.
The Juncos AKA “Snowbirds” showed up yesterday…not sure which way they are headed.
My Dad planted his potatoes yesterday…it was too cold on Good Friday so he waited until yesterday when the ground was unfrozen, he said he will cover them with five gallon buckets if it gets real cold. He also said the according to the Easter Sunrise conditions that it will be a cool summer. (The wind was blowing from the North West and switched to the North.)
I hope the Juncos are going north. We are still seeing them here. They come in October and spend the winter with us and part of spring.

ReplyDeleteBig snow storm is stalled over central Wyoming and it's snowing - expecting 1 - 2 feet through Wednesday, and the way it's coming down, we just might get it.

Our winter birds, the Goldfinches are almost all gone- the ones tat remain are getting their bright yellow summer plumage. Looks like you had a good Easter with family- and those are smart boys.

ReplyDeleteIt's nice to see some of the birds are heading back your way. We had a huge flock of getting goldfinches that ate us out of house and home for three weeks but they have gone on north in the last few days.
ReplyDeleteI love the Mallard ducks too. We had a pair on the pond recently but the Muscovy rushed right out and scared them away.
ReplyDeleteI saw the pair of Canadian geese waddle by yesterday, so they were still here fattening up as of Monday.

Juncos seem to live here year round now. We saw snow geese today lingering in the green fields in the Skagit Valley. they will soon be winging their way north.
ReplyDeleteIt seems really early to plant potatoes. Here they would rot in the cold, wet ground.
I wondered about the Good Friday....yes, it is hard to plant when the ground is still frozen! LOL! Spring is "galing" here outside...winds, rain, thunder but so far I have power so that's good! I had so many errands this week and with storms coming I've been busy for 2 days but got them done before the storm(s). What great pictures of the geese and I too love those handsome mallards!
ReplyDeleteGood for your dad. I used to aim for March 3 here, but lately the weather is just too wet. Some good days now, so hopefully I will get some in. I did plant some at Oliver yesterday before we left. We went to one garage sale on Saturday and got a box of books for $1.
