Chickens are tick eaters.
I hear the ticks are out for the year. The chickens sure thought so as they scratched and pecked leaves aside to pick tasty morsels off the ground.
Our friends Jim AKA The Silver Fox and Theresa have chickens. They free range during the day and head back to the coop at night.
Theresa spoils them by making them cupcakes of chicken feed, raisins and who knows what all but the girls love it.
Chance watched them, he was entertained.
Glad there is someone who will eat those nasty ticks.
ReplyDeleteMorning, love to have some chickens to eat those bad ole ticks.Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteThese chickens sure do look happy. How is that possible without smiles? They are, though, I can tell. :-)
ReplyDeleteBest eggs in the world, right from the hen! I love to watch them all busy getting bugs. Trying to convince The Writer that we need four. So far, no go!
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a renewal of love for the humble farm chicken. I've always valued them and been entertained by them. On the farm they were considered necessary work partners, rather than pets. Good to see them so appreciated!
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a good chicken post. I was just propped up at the kitchen window watching our chickens scratch and peck...hoping they were finding ticks. The ticks are terrible this year...already!
ReplyDeleteSo will these Chickens be broilers?
ReplyDeleteChickens sure are a hot topic anymore and more and more towns are allowing them in backyards.
ReplyDeleteI knew guineas ate ticks. I was not aware that chickens did, too. That is good to know.
ReplyDeleteA Blessed Easter to you all. Stay safe.
I would love to have chickens but I'm afraid my dogs would spend all day every day trying to herd them.
ReplyDeleteI love watching chickens. They're so entertaining.
ReplyDeletePretty girls! I'm sure all the humans around them are saying Go-go-go! Get those ticks! The dogs appreciate them, too, I'm sure. I never liked ticks before we ever heard of Lyme's disease.
ReplyDeleteChickens are entertaining!

I know that chickens are very interesting birds to watch. I sometimes wonder about the stuff they eat.
ReplyDeleteThey should be giving chickens away down here because there are ticks everywhere here! We don't have street lights or sidewalks and the roads are falling apart but god forbid we have a chicken. I asked and they said it is livestock which is forbidden in the city limits. I told them that people in cities in apartments have chickens nowadays! As usual, they didn't care.
ReplyDeleteOh how I would love a few tick eaters...yea!! Hope all is well with you and FG. My mom is starting radiation and I am trying to be a trouper..but need a huge bravery boost. Have a blessed weekend, and a glorious Easter.
ReplyDeleteLovely chickens and photos of them . We had chickens they were also free ranged on our farm they are good for all kinds of bug eating . Hope all is well with Far Guy and you both have a good weekend and a Happy Easter !
ReplyDeleteLove the photos and I bet Chance was entertained! We will have to watch out for ticks on Theo. Harriet rarely ever went outdoors but Theo loves it outside. I love your new Easter/spring header photo. God bless you both this Easter.
ReplyDeleteI don't there is much that chickens won't eat. I've seen one swallow a small dead mouse, whole!
ReplyDeleteWe used to keep a few chickens in the back yard but now the powers that be have made them illegal. Which is really too bad.
ReplyDeleteCountry chickens I like. I shake my head at all the folks around here who want to have city chickens.
ReplyDeleteGlad we don't have problems with ticks around here. We have a bit of property around us, but I've never been one for the barnyard lifestyle. Now that you mention chickens eat ticks, though, if we did have that problem, I might just consider having a bunch of chickens, after all :)
