Hours just seem to slow to a crawl when you are in the hospital.
We spent most of the day there yesterday for a treatment of special DRANO and Far Guys port is still occluded…even the surgeon says it is a problem…and will possibly have to be replaced which means surgery.
For now we must learn the fine art of operating a IV Pump. If the “stuff” won’t go in well lets just give it some help and force it in. The surgeon says “WELL of course someone will come out and teach you how an IV pump works.”
NOT TRUE. The pump is coming but hopefully with instructions because the Medical Supply place will not sent out anyone because Far Guy is not homebound. If he were homebound they would send a nurse. I suppose I can search for a You Tube…
Far Guy is fit to be tied and I am so sleepy I am having a hard time staying awake.
One more hurdle to get over. I was never a good runner anyway…but hurdles…I would have killed myself with boob flap.
You know you can jump those hurdles you have been doing it all along. There is nothing and I mean nothing you cannot jump. Sending hugs and strength. Hug B
ReplyDeleteJust keep plugging along. That is all we can do. Does feel like the system has no idea that it is dealing with real people who need real help. We have been having an issue for three years. It is getting old, old, old.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the complications and worries. I see you still have a sense of humor in spite of it all! This, too, shall pass ....
ReplyDeleteI have all the faith and confidence that you will manage to overcome this latest hurdle. The "System" really "blows" when a person can't get the help they need. Sending you a big hug!!!!
ReplyDeleteI sure had it when life puts you between a rock and a hard place and you have no choice but to continue on the path no one wants to take. Life was going so well for you both, too - - even through Chance's age-related problems.
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU for always updating. Your blog is very interesting even on ordinary days.
*hugs* and prayers.
ReplyDeleteOh Good Lord!
ReplyDeleteBe absolutely sure to tell them no nurse will come out to show you because FarGuy isn't considered house bound enough so, therefore, you will have to search on youtube or hire a local junkie to do it!! Maybe that will get them to figure something else out! I hate all the hurdles and red tape when dealing with the government and insurance and all of the rest. But you will make your way through it all. Oh! And people at the end of their rope are allowed to lose their temper a bit or cry a little with people who just don't get it. You will make it through--even with boob flap. ;)
*love and hugs*
I know you will find a way to solve this latest problem but it sure isn't fair that you have to figure out how to use that pump. I sure hope there are instructions included! Like you don't have enough problems already?
ReplyDeleteShirley H.
Sorry about Far Guy's latest setback. Maybe there's someone at the doctor's office you could call for assistance? Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThat's tough. You are right, though, there is a YouTube for everything.
ReplyDeleteWhen we were deciding on radiation or not, a side effect could have been a colostomy bag. THAT YouTube video turned us right off. I had a client with one, and it is just too hard. Emptying his catheter bag after his prostate surgery was bad enough! I'm sure you can manage an IV! All the best!
Sorry things are so hectic for you and Far Guy:
ReplyDeleteYou are on my prayer list.
Hope you can find someone who can find a solution for Far Guy's port soon.
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh! I'm so sorry! Prayers and hugs for both of you!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Oh my your poor people . I pray all goes well and you both get pass this and can get on with life as normally as possible and actually enjoy it .
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that Far Guy’s problem aren’t easing. Becoming a caregiver/nurse isn’t easy and not too pleasant either. But we want to keep them alive, don’t we?
ReplyDeleteGood luck from somebody who’s struggling too.
I am so sorry, Praying for you both.
ReplyDeleteStay strong.
ReplyDeleteThat is ridiculous that they won't send someone to teach you how to use the IV pump. Hopefully they will send you an easy-to-program one! Hoping for the best!!
ReplyDeleteWell, you still have a great sense of humor about hurdles. I hope this gets solved quickly.
ReplyDeleteHA,ha Boob flap!
ReplyDeleteI did home health with pumps for years. We did home visits and you did not need to be homebound. Guess things have changed, sorry to hear that.
Oh no- how would that work? I hope you can get someone to come out and show you at least once. Boob flap? I tried to run yesterday in a hurry to finish my 12000 steps for the day and between my gut and my boobs I thought I was gonna knock myself out. Bwahaha!
ReplyDeleteThat is so horrible for you. I sure send my sympathies to you and Far Guy! Life just loves to throw lemons, when you least expect it. I will wish for some strawberries instead for you both ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you have yet another problem to cope with. May you find a way.
ReplyDeleteHang in there, y'all. You're in my prayers. If I were close I could feed you, that's all I know how to do.
ReplyDeleteModern medicine can be wonderful but also a pain in the rear! Two steps forward, three steps back! The two of you are tough and you will get through this together. Stay strong!
ReplyDeleteMarlys
Ugh! You guys certainly don't need more hassles. I hope all ends well.... soon!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear of this latest bump in the journey. How about a nurse who does home visits instead of someone from the medical supply company. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteYes the Nurse is 50 dollars an hour and come from an hour away, we must pay for travel time and her time about four hours. Medicare will not cover home visits because he is not homebound.
DeleteSo sorry to hear this! Hope the port problem gets sorted out quickly...
ReplyDeleteIt's so frustrating when you are stuck in one of those pockets covered over in red tape! Sending my wishes...and prayers...that things will work out and that Far Guy's port will get back to working properly.
ReplyDeleteSending prayers.... Hugs Francine.
ReplyDeleteOh good grief. Maybe there is someone near you that could come help as a volunteer? I know a couple nurses that would be happy to...if they just knew there was a need.
ReplyDeleteI was shaking my head in indignation as I read this, until I got to the line about boob flap. Oh Lord I laughed! But the problems FG is having are not a laughing matter. I hope this will be resolved soon, it has to be.
ReplyDeleteWhat a hassle. Is there somewhere where he can go so they can teach you both? A local doctor's office maybe? I was having trouble once with a new injection tube/hypodermic that Enbrel sent me and I didn't know if it was broke or I was doing it wrong but it's so expensive I couldn't just pitch it. I called the pharmacy and they have a nurse there and she said to bring it on over and she'd see what she could do. She was familiar with the new hypodermic and had no problem and showed me what I needed to do. Never even charged me. I know yours is a bit more involved but it was a thought. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI am shaking my head over "boobflap". Kind of a gasp/laugh after such a serious post about a medical issue. Good luck with your hurdles. Keep us posted. We care.
ReplyDeleteThat is not right that you have to figure that out yourselves, can you two go to a doctor's office with your new equipment and they can show you how to use it?
ReplyDeleteTerra the medical supply company sent out a few pages of instructions. Why would anyone help when they think that it is someones elses job:)
