More odd ball carvings that were rolling around in my carving bag.
Painted and sealed. The Loon was a left over from the big ornament project, I borrowed it to a fellow carver for a pattern. I still have one more snowman in my carving bag…uncarved. One time I THOUGHT about carving these snowmen as “the ornaments”..no way…it takes me several hours to carve just one.
I tried to do a plaid scarf…they key word is TRIED. I should have sketched the pattern out instead of just painting it. AND he has a funny nose…oh well.
We cleaned out the box of paints and then went shopping for the colors that had gone bad and for the ones we used up. There is 69 cents difference between stores in town on paints. One store has them for 50 cents and one for $1.19 go figure where we shopped. Two fer the price of one works for me.
Here are gas prices in a town 33 miles away. A good 20 cents cheaper than our town 14 miles away. These are the lowest prices we have seen in a long time. Yes the days are still gray and frosty…but above zero!
Those are cute carvings and I think the scarf turned out just fine.

I just love your carvings. My dad was a woodcarver and I always think of his style when I see yours. When he retired in Florida he started using beach wood and I have some beautiful small pieces from exotic woods that washed up on the Florida shore.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it great to have gas prices with a "1" in front?!! We live so far from anything and everything, it's nice to be able to just go for a ride without feeling like you're breaking the bank.
I just love your carvings, especially the snowman. He is soooo cute! Our gas prices are about $1.71. WI always is higher than surrounding states. Still cold and damp here - temps about 25 degrees. At least I have been able to get outside and walk a little. Have a great weekend.

ReplyDeleteI love the plaid scarf on the snowman. Our gas would be $2.68 for an American gallon up here...in Canadian funds. I guess about the same. Of course it's litres up here and $.68/litre. Too many numbers this early in the morning.

ReplyDeleteThe falling gas prices are bittersweet here in oil country. Sure is nice at the pump, but the local economy is taking a big hit.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes stop and think about yesterday and ask myself what happened. Most of the time I have to think very hard to remember what happened. Maybe that's why it goes so fast as we can't remember it. Our gas is 74 cents a liter and I don't know what that is in gallons...just an awful lot.
ReplyDeleteLove the snowman and the scarf, too. It looks plaid to me. Very cute. For the first snowman GN after she moved in with me, I let her use a carrot for the nose. We had a January thaw. The snowman melted a lot and the carrot moved so far south that my husband noticed that the snowman had a . . . gender. Looks like your snowman's carrot will st where it is.

ReplyDeleteI read somewhere (or heard it on NPR) that there is a chemical change in the brain that occurs as people move from childhood to adulthood that makes time seem to go by faster. Interesting theory, if it's true. The Casey's in our town is shut down for remodeling so there is one gas station open for those of us who don't have a special credit card to use at the other gas station in town. This one is on the highway and they gouge us a little -- $1.59. Our Caseys was down to $1.51 before it shut down. Real irritating. Carvings are great
ReplyDeleteI notice that some Canadian commenters are having gas prices considerably less than we here on the west coast. 89.9 a liter is what we paid today. I also am too befuddled to figure out what that would be a US gallon.

ReplyDeleteI don't know what the scientists have to say about time, but here in our family, we have the Stevens Theory of Relativity: the older you get, the smaller the relative proportion of one unit of time against the totality of all the units of time you've already lived. Thus, that smaller sliver slips by all the more quickly. To a kindergartner, a year is 20% of a lifetime, thus it takes nearly an eternity for summer vacation to get here. To a centenarian, that same blip of a year represents only one percent of a lifetime of experience.
