Cold Preparations

Uffda …the worm has turned.  We are back in the deep freeze and will be again for about a week according to the weather guessers forecasters.  My other baby brother was by with his snow blower and blew most of our snow.  We finished the shoveling and then decided we better make a trip to town to reinforce the snacks essential supplies.
Roads were slippery
Part of the roads were a little slippery…snowpacked from the snow we got on Thursday. It will take a few days for the roads to completely clear.
We stopped and recycled, that is a job you don’t want to do on a sub zero day.  We recycle everything we can.

Our county makes it easy for us with these huge recycling bins located in our nearest little town.  We usually sort before we go, sometimes in the summer we get a bit lax BUT when bees start flying all over you are reminded why you sort.

We got er done and three stops later in a bigger town and we are set to go for awhile.

Last week whilst I was gone the brush cleaners were by and trimmed all of the brush away from the back drive.
IMG_2573 All the brush is gone from the area underneath the power poles.   It is a great fire stop now, not much there to burn should the natives become restless in the spring.  It looks all neat and clean now and in the spring wildflowers will have a head start!

Yes, I am thinking of spring…in four months we should be done with snow and cold.

  1. We are back to rain, rain, rain. In the mountains it's snowing, but down at sea level, it's rain. Normal for us, though. We also recycle but we have big bins right outside the complex for us to put our stuff in. Makes it really easy. :-)

  2. Got cold here overnight....wish we had recycle bins closer...I hate storing stuff and just want it gone. I'm hoping spring comes sooner too...January seems to be dragging on and on and on.

  3. It looks so cold! We have dark, dark days here, and I am wistful about the snowy landscapes you post...but don't know if I would move back!

  4. Hurray for your brother who dropped by to help you out with the snow removal. I sure appreciate when one of the neighbor's blades the sidewalks with his four-wheeler.

Fortunately, my town has curbside pickup of recycling. It is convenient, especially in cold weather.

  5. Two days of low 20s and back to -10 this morning. Yup! Deep freeze weather. Good thing you went when you did and got all that necessary stuff out of the way. :) Stay warm and safe!

  7. We get the same weather as DJan, so yeah, lots of rain and more on the way. I'd like to get a little bit of snow....:) Glad you recycle, I have no patience with those that don't.

  8. I could have sworn I left a comment after your post yesterday. I'm blaming the fever for it not showing up. I might have even fallen asleep in the middle of commenting. Oh well. So . . . what essential snacks did you stock up on for this round of arctic blast? Sheesh it's cold!

  9. We recycle too and thankfully the recycle bins are only about three or four miles away. Four more months! I need to remember that and not complain anymore!

  10. You're so funny, hope you got all the essential supplies you needed. We have weather guessers here too. Funny thing I still believe what they say until the weather is the opposite, then the next forecast I believe again and so on and so on, I will learn one day not to bother reading it. We have our recycling picked up from council bins which are supplied to each residence here, much easier than the procedure you have to take especiallyin that weather. pity your county cannot do the same.

  12. It's nice that you got some help with the snow before the frigid weather comes. You have all you needs and I hope you bought some treats, too, so now you can just stay in and keep warm. Well, you can until cabin fever sets in anyhow!

  14. We sneaked out to get a couple of things to go with Della's new computer. Wow, I promised we would park close, run in and run out, and go straight home. It worked but it still was so miserably cold. Our Chicago kids were going to come this weekend and I just said for them to stay home.

  15. You're a hardy bunch to live in such a harsh winter. You don't become a wimp and go south for the winter.

  16. Four months?! That seems like forever! Glad you have some snacks with you, so you can nestle in and stay put somewhere safe and warm for a while.

  17. That road looks slippery! Not much they can do to make it better when its cold and windy.
This is the time of winter when it's nice to just hibernate.

  18. Yes, get those supplies/snacks in for sure! LOL! I always stock up on stuff for the girls and most of my stuff I make so I usually have backups of flour, sugar, etc. It looks pretty but I was thinking the other day while I was filling my tank at the gas station in 60 degrees that it will be much colder to fill it up when I'm back up North and also pushing a grocery cart through a snowy parking lot and then shoveling if I live in town...it's all coming back to me now! LOL!

  19. It's too durn cold! My college buddy used to say there was only three degrees of cold. "Brr, chilly" "Cold!" and "[expletive deleted] its COLD!"

I think we're at the last one now.
