Tuesday night when I knew a hospital stay was eminent I took my toothbrush out of the bag and put it in my purse/backpack, I also took my vitamins, I either left the bag with the pills, toothpaste and eye drops on the counter in the kitchen (I went there to get a glass of water so I could take the vitamins.) OR I threw them back in my suitcase and didn't shut the lid.I knew I could borrow Jens toothpaste, and once we got home I would take my meds for the day. I forgot, so I asked Noah to remind me...he did and low and behold the bag of medication was missing.
It wasn't on the counter in the kitchen and it wasn't in my suitcase...Noah and I went through my suitcase piece by piece. We looked everywhere including the garbage and the refrigerator. The bag was missing...we retraced all my steps, and asked all family members. I mentioned to Andy that Little Elvis was digging a hole in the yard that afternoon, he said "Oh when I cleaned out the smoker I left some meat drippings out there." Silly dog.
Little Elvis
I thought about where the bag could be, in fact every time I awakened during the night I tried to visualize exactly where I left that bag. In the morning we talked about it again and looked some more. I thought perhaps I was going nuts.

Then it was time for Andy to leave for work. A minute or two later he came in and asked "Is this what you have been looking for?"
Yes that was it, with a hole chewed in the bag, luckily no pills were missing. Someone ...I won't say who knocked them off the counter, or stole them out of my suitcase and took them out the doggie door and tried to bury them in the snow. Andy noticed them in the back yard.
It could have been anyone or a team of anyones who are able to leap onto counters to bat stuff onto the floor...just saying...it might have been a very agile tiny black dog...who might have been digging them up or trying to cover up the evidence in the back yard...only the animals know for sure...and for now the pills and the bag are safely tucked into my suitcase in a zippered compartment.
I was relieved to know that I am not nuts...and that all pills were accounted for. Someone said "Maybe they thought Chance would deliver new pills."
I did not head home yesterday, there was a band of snow that dropped 13 inches of snow between me and home so it was safer to stay put. Perhaps I will have better luck today. Jen is recovering a little at a time and can probably survive without her Mother now. Thank you for all your well wishes and prayers.
Mystery ... solved! "Someone" is very clever. And sneaky.
ReplyDeleteCan't help but laugh. All the animals look like, "I have no idea who took your pills"!
ReplyDeleteThat story made me laugh as I have been in that situation where I really felt I was loosing my mind. so glad the pills were found and that your mind is still there. Also glad you decided to stay put for another day. Please drive safely when you go home.
ReplyDeleteWith that much snow maybe you should wait another day? I am glad you found your pills. I know how maddening it is when something is mislaid for some reason. Hope that your daughter will have a speedy recovery.

I know you're smart enough to know when to stay put. I wouldn't have wanted to deal with roads with that much snow on them. And I'm sure Jen appreciates you staying around. Glad you got ALL your pills back! :-)
ReplyDeleteGlad the mystery was solved. I know I would worry because the pills we get help us but might not be good for someone else or another creature. Plus it's good to know our brains are still operating properly. You were right. You had put the pills where you thought you did.
ReplyDeleteGreat that Jen can get along okay now without her mother. Great story of the search for the pills!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds just like those ads on t.v. where the cat knocks things off the counter for the dog! I think they were in 'cahoots' with each other is my guess! Glad no one was hurt.
ReplyDeleteSo glad Jen is on the mend now. Yu always want your Mother when you aren't feeling good.
Such a relief to know it wasn't you but a four-legged bandit!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad Jen is better and you will be able to head for home soon. :)
I had a cat who stole my contact lenses on the day I broke my regular glasses, great timing. Glad you daughter is doing well.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a conspiracy to keep you there. . .just sayin'
ReplyDeleteThey didn't want you to leave. And if you think they can't work those zippers open...
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad Jen is doing better AND you found your pills!
ReplyDeleteLinda
Doesn't it drive you crazy when something like that happens. The backtracking, the visualizing, the checking the same places 10 times over...ugghh. That happened with my glasses last summer, never did find them. So glad that yours had a happy ending, and no pills went missing! Those animals....:) All the best to Jen.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it just drive you batty when things like this happen and your second guessing yourself ? it does me lol ! Glad all was found and nothing was eaten from it . Lovely photos . Good to hear Jen is getting better . Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !
ReplyDeleteOh Connie, that is funny! We have tag teams here also. The cats will knock things off the counter for the dog all the time. Once they inticed him with a muffin but he ran and got me to show me so he would not get into trouble again, they are a hoot!
ReplyDeleteOh what a funny story! Glad you found your meds unharmed and now have a good story to tell.
ReplyDeleteMisplaced or lost stuff can really get to you especially if it's medication or keys.
ReplyDeleteQuite the interesting mystery! Glad your pills were found and none of them had been eaten by anybody! Hope the traveling was safer for you today and that you're now safely back at home again. Prayers for your daughter's recovery too!
ReplyDeleteIt really does make you crazy when something goes missing like that. Very helpful when you know "something" else is responsible. Things going missing (not missing, just temporarily misplaced) seems to be happening to us more and more frequently. We are now missing our 1/2 cup measuring cup (a very nice set of measuring cups these are too). It is nowhere to be found but I am fairly certain the Mollywog has not buried it.
ReplyDeleteWell, that was a very interesting little mystery story! So glad you solved it!
ReplyDeleteAll's well that ends well!!
ReplyDeleteAll along, I kept thinking, "It's gotta be a cat..." But I didn't think you were a cat person. Yeah, maybe it was a team effort, but it had all the fingerprints of cat instigation!
ReplyDeleteWe have one kleptomaniac cat at our house. He has managed to steal everything from socks to the car keys...and medicine. He considers it great sport. Even better when his hiding place is not discovered--like the keys, for several weeks. I keep telling him: stick to mice.
In the old days when we had metal garbage cans our neighbor dogs, two collies, would knock of the lids and carry off our garbage bags. We would find them up and down the alley in the spring. My wife knows what person in the house carries things away and looses them for her. I hope daughter is a lot better and I bet hubby and dog do appreciate your return.
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful pets you have! I am so glad to hear that none of them ate any of the pills. Dogs do the funniest things.......
