Today is Labor Day a time for some people to take the day off….around here that means maybe a picnic at the lake or just a day to catch up on projects you didn’t get to all summer or have a nap. Everyone puts their own spin on “a paid holiday.”
Some people who we rely on the most do not get the day off.
This handsome young man is my cousin Scott’s son. His name is Dannon and he is a Sheriff’s Deputy for a neighboring county. The other day Far Guy and I stopped at a public landing to walk Chance and Dannon pulled up to put the Sheriff’s Boat in the water. We had a nice visit. Dannon is enjoying his career in Law Enforcement. We pray that he stays safe. We have watched him grow from a gangly teenager into a fine young man.
I salute all the American workers who make this country a great place to live.
For me personally the day means the end of summer, although the first day of Fall is two weeks away…Fall is in the air. Most of the far away tourists have departed, we are left with the North Dakota weekend visitors and the elderly out of State people with no children. Tomorrow is the first day children will go back to school in Minnesota.
Where would any of us be without those who work on public holidays or at unsociable times? Summer seems to be having a late flush over here - oh, woops, just spotted some clouds...
ReplyDeleteWe are definitely into fall weather after a horrible fire season. I'm so glad to welcome back moderate temperatures and rain. I have the day off, too, but then again, I have every day off! The buses aren't running and the gym is closed, but fortunately for me, the coffee shop is still open! :-)
ReplyDeleteHe reminds me so much of my grandson who not too long ago went to work at the Sheriff's Department as a jailer. I worry about his safety too. He also wants a career in Law Enforcement. Not a very safe place to be these days.

ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of jobs that we would be in big trouble if they weren't filled each and every day. Thanks to those who chose to work in them.
ReplyDeleteIt went from Summer to Fall on Friday a week and a half ago. Warm and sunny to cool and rainy, and only 7C on Saturday morning. We got enough rain to water everything well, and it has helped with the forest fires and low reservoir situations.

ReplyDeleteI have a few officers in the family as well . May you all be safe as you keep us all safe ! It is hot and humid here today again there is a heat advisory in tow for us here in Ontario eh? Yup a day to do what ever tickles our fancy and it also is back to school for the kiddos here to tomorrow , the bus will be passing every day again here . Thanks for sharing , Have a good day !

That was neat that you ran into him. He is probably older than he looks but I can see him enjoying the work. Labor day was always the last big fling for some of our local towns. We just had another every normal day. It does seem like a Saturday though. Your mom's glories are so striking in your header with Chance the wonder dog.

ReplyDeleteLabor Day for my husband was always much like your cousin's son is experiencing right now. Labor Day was just another work day--albeit with souped up holiday pay. Same for Christmas and New Year's. That kind of work never stops. Yes, there are daily prayers for safety--my husband never left home without a kiss and hug for our daughter, because one never knows... All in all, though, with solid training and administrative support, it makes for a great career for those willing and able to toe the line.
Happy Labour Day to you. I feel that Fall is here already, too. Tomorrow my youngest GS starts grade one and he is full of trepidation. I don't doubt there will be a few tears.

ReplyDeleteI worked many a holiday--including Christmas Day (animals at a pet shop still poop and have to eat even if you're not open--LOL!). What a handsome young man he is. Hope you had a good day. :)

ReplyDeleteWhat a handsome young man and my hats off to all who LABOR! Especially on Labor Day! In the old days no one went back to school until after Labor Day but now they're all different. Iowa was back last week. I don't understand it all. Happy Fall!
