I have several photos that are unknown on Far Guy’s Paternal side of the family.
If I stare at this one long enough I can make out Far Guy’s Dad and his Grandfather. It might be wishful thinking.
Who would take a group photo in the woods on a hump of earth? What was the occasion? Was this a spot for a new house? The burial of a old horse?…this photo is not telling me much. It must have been spring or maybe summer. Maybe about 1920 give or take a year or two.
The genetics in our family are unknowns also…and I am not talking about who you got your tallness, shortness, baldness from. The important stuff…medical inadequacies…that are passed from one generation to another.
As you know we are in the midst of some genetic testing…no results are back in yet. The best we can hope for our daughters is that they are just carriers of the Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Knowledge is the key…if you know about something you can take appropriate action…it is the unknown that will keep you guessing.
I was just thinking about my aunt who lived much longer than anybody else in our family and wondered if I might have gotten her genes instead of everybody else's. One can hope. And I sure do hope your kids didn't get that deficiency gene. Hey, it's July already! :-)
ReplyDeleteInteresting photo - I'm not sure this is a "mound" of dirt or perhaps a bend in a creek or drainage spot that allowed the photographer an interesting vantage point. Unfortunately, there seem to be several people standing behind others semi-blocked from view. The man in the beret and white shirt seems to be holding a baby that has gathered the attention of several people in the back row.
ReplyDeleteYou always make me laugh! A group photo in the woods on a clump of dirt! :) There are several old pictures in Daddy's family where the person was standing behind a giant azalea in full bloom. Just their head was showing.
ReplyDeleteHealth family trees would be helpful, but not many recorded such things.
ReplyDeleteWhat we inherited healthwise was a complete mystery. We are starting to get some knowledge now.
ReplyDeleteMy parents had four boys and then lost the fifth child, a girl. When my dad ended up being the only guy who could give blood for his brother ,my dad's whole family realized that the RH factor was in the family. Many of my dad's sister also had lost girls and they didn't know anything about blue babies in southern Iowa. Blood type is not the same as genetic things but it was an eyeopener once two brothers were identified O negative. I hope that they are only carriers and that it doesn't go further down the line.
ReplyDeleteI have several of these mystery photos, too, where you are wondering who they are and why they are where they are. It is fun guessing and making up possible stories. I hope you get the test results soon.
ReplyDeleteI didn't even realize it was a mound of dirt and thought at first glance it was just the shadow of a tree and that was why everybody was clumped along the back to be in an open space in the sun. Does make you wonder who they were and why they were all together that day. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like they are perched on the edge of a ravine....strange place to take a picture, I guess. It does make one wonder and you want to know but never will.
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog! My husband and I are on "the far side of 50" also and enjoy similar interests. Roger is retired army. Praying for your hubby. I love to read and crochet. Stop by for a visit: LIVING AN ORDINARY LIFE blog (susanzarzycki.blogspot.com). Hugs.
