Seventeen and Forty-Three

It was birthday week at our oldest daughters house.

Maddie is seventeen.  I was there in the Intensive Care Unit when she entered this world and it seems like just yesterday or the day before.

Maddie is seventeen

She was born the day before her Mother’s Birthday.

Trica and Maddie

Maddie was having a party.  A whole bunch of her friends were coming over to help her celebrate.  I heard that some of her friends had already filled her bedroom with balloons.

I am not sure how Trica will spend her 43rd birthday…most likely recuperating from a houseful of teenagers.

We went for ice cream because someone said “I can sit in a car for an hour or two just as good as I can sit at home.”  When my husband makes a date with someone he likes to keep it no matter what.  He promised to be really good for the rest of the weekend.  I already vetoed the Train Show that he had a thought or two about attending.  He will be staying home and resting and drinking fluids (water).  He has started calling me “The Gestapo.”

  1. Well, you are needed to take care of Far Guy to make sure he doesn't overdo it, right? He needs a Gestapo right now! :-)

  2. I'm so glad Far Guy is mending (and minding!) a bit.
My husband would be the first to tell you that ice cream can cure almost anything.

  3. Happy Birthday Maddie and Tricia! Maddie is such a pretty girl! She looks tall. My Madison turned 17 last week. So glad to hear that Far Guy is doing better. I agree with you about the golden years! Take care!

  4. Well - -if he's feeling well enough to tease you - - that's good - - - sounds like a term of endearment. He is really glad you love him so much to enforce preventative and curative health measures. Maybe he can find something to occupy his mind or hands at home - - - so he won't miss the trains. Praise God he's around to think about them!!!

  5. Glad Far Guy felt up to eating ice cream in the car. Make him mind! We need both of you to be well. Take good care of yourself too, Far Side. Please keep us posted on how things are going. We worry.

  8. Happy birthday to your beautiful granddaughter, and praise God your husband was able to enjoy ice cream with you instead of being in the hospital. ( Yes, good thing you were not sleeping as deeply as usual )

Hoping to read all is well after visit with pulmonologist. Not being able to breathe well is scary.

  9. Sometimes being a demure wife just is not what is called for. I politely ordered my husband into the car so I could take him to ER, but before he complied, he asked me for permission to do the same thing to me. I said no, and then he got himself put to the car. Best wishes to the birthday girls! Take care.

  10. Happy birthday Maddie. Time passes quickly no matter what age we are. We just notice it sometimes more than others.

  11. Happy Birthday to Tricia and Maddie. They are just beautiful! I like the way you clarified what FG would be drinking!!! Each afternoon around 3 p.m., I have to yell out our back door to John, "Do you need a drink?" (meaning a Glucerna blood sugar drink) The neighbors probably really wonder about us!!!

  13. Yes, I have one of those who things they can do things. The trip from the house to the car challenges the lungs and then from the car to the bookstore is worse up on a windy hill. We stay home when in doubt anymore. I am glad Far Guy is better. He's been on my mind and in my prayers the past two days.

  18. Two happy birthdays--cool! Time does fly.
Somebody has to be the gestapo when the stubborn (or is it optimistic) patient won't listen to logic--ROFL! ;)
