We went for a ride in the wind. I feel sorry for anyone that is driving a high profile vehicle. Wind gusts were horrid. The air was full of dust.
Saw three deer.
Here are two.
They look pretty good.
Saw a dead wolf in the ditch yesterday afternoon about 1/4 of a mile from our home. The DNR picked it up. It looked like it had been hit by a car… but it could have been shot. I am sure the DNR will figure it out. We have noticed a decrease in our squirrel population….either they are nesting or the wolf had a snack.
The wolf could have been some Chicken BRAVE dogs problem the past few days…he has been a pill….clingy, vocal and demanding…and wanting company outside ALL the time.
The squirrels are getting fatter or Chance is getting faster… he almost captured one yesterday. I don’t think he had catch and release in mind either.
There was one ditch fire about 10 miles south and five miles west of us yesterday, we saw the DNR heavy equipment headed back after the fire was under control.
I hope the wind goes away and we get some rain soon.
We are supposed to have the nicest day of spring so far here today -- the lack of wind was especially noted. I will be going around picking up all the things that the gales have scattered about for the last several days, including some good-sized tree limbs.
ReplyDeleteWolves, squirrels, deer -- Chance must be having a good time exercising his doggy instincts.
It was quite windy here yesterday also; a very nice Spring day. Sump pumps around here are still running after our bug storm last week. Chance sure is getting a lot of exercise. If he needs more squirrels to chase I can send you a few.
ReplyDeleteMy sister's little Papillon caught two squirrels last summer. He didn't release them either. It must be time for the squirrels to be nesting, making little scamper rats. It's been raining here for the past two days, but what else is new? :-)
ReplyDeleteWow, a wolf! You think that would keep those squirrels on their toes!
ReplyDeleteHas to be a scary time for your area...drought and wind and fire. We had MORE rain yesterday. Sump pumps are still pumpiing.
ReplyDeleteLooks very dry. I wish I could email you some of my rain.
ReplyDeleteWe had some heavy winds, too. We have rain today. Wish I could send some to you.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do get rain very soon. The Bennie said thank you , he try's. LOL
ReplyDeleteThat sump pump has him in a mood.
Sometimes we have to wait for a long time for rain. it's hard.
ReplyDeleteThat wind can cause all sorts of bad things to happen. Hope it dies down and turns into a lovely light breeze for you!
ReplyDeleteWolves...I would be MORE than clingy, Chance! Wolves....shudder.

Very cool image of Chance! I hope the winds die down for you and that you get rain. It hasn't been terribly windy here today. After work I went out int the yard and picked up twigs and smallish branches that fell from a neighbor's tree and then blew into the yard. As for deer I didn't see any, but I had to repair my downspout because of them I am certain one had to have tripped over my downspout during their nightly parade through my garden. The horizontal piece was detached from the vertical piece despite there being two screws to hold it.
ReplyDeleteNo wolves around here but mountain lions are out there in some locations. The coyotes are always around but no wolves. I would think they would move further north and yet I suppose they are expanding their territories.
ReplyDeleteMy people friendly, dog unfriendly Lily might take on one of those Bid Bads but that surely wouldn't be a good idea nor end well....;(
ReplyDeleteAw, be a sport, Chance: catch and release!
ReplyDeleteI do miss the deer, as dangerous as they are on the roadway. I am originally from upstate New York and we were surrounded by them. We are now in southern Alabama where there are far less deer. The squirrels are plentiful enough, but very different than they are in New York.
ReplyDeleteI hope and pray you get the rain too. We had a strong wind today but rain is back in the forecast.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too! For all of your sakes, wild life included.
ReplyDeleteChance is smart! He could probably smell that wolf out there.
ReplyDeleteSuch a weird spring. You know we are usually sandbagging and dealing with flooding over here. Instead it's dust and wind.
Yes, Chance is smart! And I like your shot of the deer.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get wind and rain too. I hate 'fire danger" down here but it's been a wet Spring so none so far. Even Nitty doesn't go far at night. I stand at the door and she keeps looking to see if I'm there and Annie won't go out at night at all if Nitty doesn't go with her. We have some big critters down here too...bears even.
